I guess I have the strangest combo because i now have the 20's, oem Goodyears and 373 gears. I also now have a cloth seat car with an RER nav radio and the six speed. I absolutely love my personalized car with non factory available options which are all OEM.

Did you add the 20's afterwards, or was that option checked from the get-go?
I originally wanted the 18" wheels with the 3.92 gears (because I had no intention of running factory wheels anyhow), but I was told it could not be done.

Rear-end Gearing does one thing. It moves the sweet spot of the engine's power band. If you need that sweet spot at low speeds you go for lower gearing (numbers above 3.70 usually). If you need that power at high speeds you get higher gearing, number in the sub 3.55 range typically but not always. It depends mostly on the type of engine you have.

The tranny ratios simply try to keep the shift points coming at the point the engine starts to nose over. The next gear should keep the engine in the sweet spot. It gets way more complex when you have to figure in partial throttle operations, and the like, but this is the simple explanation. What also makes things tough is the engine management system calibration along with ABS, ESP, and LMNOP. The heavier 20" wheel/tire combo takes a bit more power/torque to get moving so the lower gearing keeps the performance number where they need to be. Plopping SRT8 20's on an R/T probably throws all the electronics out of whack. Significantly changing the wheel/tire from stock requires all kinds of adjustments to keep the system optimal. This also contributes to people snapping drive lines while drag racing with their bling'bling 24's on

I was actually considering either changing my rear gear to a 4:10-4:11 (when they decide to make them) or lowering the car and putting on 18s with a low profile tire to help change the gear ratio. I know the Predator tuners help to make these adjustments to the electrical system. A mild change in gear ratio is good for atleast .5 seconds in the 1/4

Geez, i hope they are tougher than that. I have 87 5.0 mustang with a stick, that has well over 200 quarter mile runs on it. all full throttle shifts and sticky tires, still running good.

I plan to take my 6 speed R/T to the test and tune opening day of our local 1/8th mile track this Sat. Don't know what to expect out of it .

Wasn't pretty . But still impressed everyone. Decided to run a 1/4 mile track on their opening day today. The only car's that had any traction where race car's with slick's . I even ran a Z 06 6 speed Corvette on one run. And we where neck and neck to half track . We where both still not geting enough taction . When he finally did he ran off from me to run high 14's to my 16 something. My best time was the last run taking off at idle with the tire pressure at 25 . And not getting on it hard till in third . And it still wanted to spin. My time was 14.91 at 96.21 mph. The 1/8 mile time on that run was 9.72 76 mph. reaction time was .784 . And I took off as the last yellow lit. Don't plan to run again . It run's good on the street . And that is what I got it for. The car weighted in with 3/4 tank of gas with me in it at 4352 Lb. at the end of the day. I weigh 280 .

Yes. It has been 35 years since running anything with power. So I was rusty . With traction the car would run in 13's . If a Z 06 Corvette I ran couldn't get out of the 14's with street tire's. You know it is not the Challenger fault . He only ran away from me at half track. I have a feeling I sold several Challenger R/T's today for Dodge. I know at least 50 people came to get a up close look and to talk to me . And the guy in the Tower loved my Car . He went wild about it every run I made. Then after leaving the track and gasing up . And looking for some place to eat . A new Mustang that looked like cheaper Shelby . Pulled up along side at a light . Raving about the Challenger . I comminted him on the look's of his car. And he said it didn't compare to the Challenger . What would happen if Dodge ever ran a good Commerical or two on TV . A profressional photographer took the picture with a remote camera. You only run the 1st time once. I don't plan to make any modification's or run the car again . Enjoying it as it is.
