RE: 6.1 Manual Shifting issues
It's actually doing what it is designed to do. To help with fuel economy, there are soloenoids in the transmission that lock you out of 2nd and 3rd gear. Its the 1-4 skip shift, and can be disabled with aftermarket euipment, or you can drive it agressively, and then it will let you shift through all the gears. The same technology is used in Corvettes and other vehicles that use the Tremec manual transmission.

Thanks Mopar_Nut. It has been several years since I have had a manual. I forgot just how much fun it was. Will the aftermarket device void the warranty?

You must be driving it aggressively all the time - ours has it - drives me nuts too. I use that very excuse to drive aggressively each time I get to take her out for a spin[sm=badbadbad.gif]

I'm still putting break-in miles on it. I haven't even done a single 0-60 test. I couldn't be any softer.

epegasus, you can force it in to second (you only feel slight resistance when shifting), but the cleaner shift will take you to fourth. I thought it was my lack of shifting experience causing me to miss second gear, but if I drive even a bit aggressive (shifting above 3K RPMs) it will point me to 2nd without issue.

I can't speak for the SRT's but the R/Ts with manual transmissions also have this 1-4 skip shift feature and it only activates within some specific ranges of operation. The engine must be warmed up to normal operating temps, vehicle speed must be between about 18 and 22 miles per hour and throttle postion must not be more than 25% depressed.
The Skip Shift eliminator is availabe and you should be able to get one for about $20.

RE: 6.1 Manual Shifting issues
The short harness that Mot250 talks about really works great on my 6 speed R/T . I got mine from Speed.inc. There are some other brands I think . No more blocked 2nd gear shifts.
