Default RE: What are the differences in the 5.7 and 6.1 Hemi Block??

I kinda listed some of them in anothe thread:

They are are just simply different engines.

1. higher compression ratio

2. Bigger bore

3. high flow heads

4. larger valves

5. intake manifold design for higher rpm

6. exhaust manifold is tubular in design

7. higher flow fuel injectors

8. higher flow air cleaner

9. A nodular crank on the 5.7L vs a forged steel crankshaft on the 6.1L

10. Cylinder block has reinforced bulkheads for higher engine loads

11. Larger bore diameter

12. Cylinder bores are hones for reduced piston friction

13. Higher performance flat top pistons to support the higher compression ratio.

Too numerous to list all.

Botttom line is there are a lot of differences between the 5.7L vs the 6.1L.

ok thanks... so is the bore are the only difference in the actual block???
the crank changes compression ratio right??
and you can always buy different heads and intakes...
So in short the 6.1 is just a bored out 5.7 with a bigger crank??? [&:]

also dont forget the two most important distinguishing features. the 5.7 Hemi also has "Variable Cam Timing" (Chrysler's version of Honda's VTec), and Multi-Displacement System (MDS). MDS has the ablity to turn off cylinders to save gas. so basicly it turns a V8 into a 4 banger when on the highway or cruising. MDS will only come with the 5 speed AutoStick though.

you can get an MDS delete package for just about nothing. Im more concerened in how I can take a 5.7 and get it to a 6.1 or even a 6.4 (392)

Theres not much of a difference in the 5.7 or the 6.1 once the motor is in the car though...the R/T is only milliseconds behind the SRT in every test.
