One of my cars is getting a 440
[sm=happy046.gif]
I picked up a 440 and 727 for $500. Carb. to pan. Got it home this weekend.
Let the fun begin. [sm=gears.gif]
I will be moving the engine inside this week.
This thing started rightI hope it looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside.
Engine and trans are from a 77 New Yorker. Totaly original.
I am hoping just a mild rebuild will do it.
I think I will put it in my orange car.

Cool. Are you going to rebuild it to Magnum specs for '71? Pick up some performance heads, cam, etc.....? Should be a nice ride when done!

RE: One of my cars is getting a 440
Great news. Got the 440 inside and tore down this weekend. Some IDIOT installed the rocker arms wrong on one side.
The pushrods were hitting the heads!
Other than that the rest of the engine looks great. Almost no ridge at all.
I’m going to just do a top end rebuild an run this thing. Looks like cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers and shafts is all that it really needs.
I will have the heads done and install a new oil pump, new seals and gaskets.
The trans has been rebuilt, and has a new converter.
picture shows the problem. Can anyone else see the problem in this?

the rockers are upside down?
Not upsidedown. But look at the pushrods where they are hitting the head.
Rocker arms have an offset where the pushrod is, some one installed them with the offsets the wrong way.
Needless to say pushrods, rockers and shafts will need replaced.
Here is another picture that shows the pushrods spred apart at the top. They shoud not be angled that way.
I spotted this as soon as I removed the intake and valve covers.

I think it was the first picture that didn't show it all that well. I didn't see it at first either; but you can plainly see it in the second pic.

I have no history on this engine. Guy I bought it from got the car at an auction.
He thought it needed a oil pump. But I can clearly see all the noise was from the pushrods and rockers
on that side. It must have been like that for some time. One of the pushrods is worn paper thin where it was hitting in the head.
Also I have no idea how this was not noticed. This thing sounded like a thashing machine up top. It had to have been making alot
of noise when they did it. But oh well there loss, my gain.
