Busted windshield already... ARGH
Took a co-worker out to lunch earlier today and noticed about a 3 feet crack in upper passenger side of the windshield... got out and looked at it and it was definitely a rock strike (must have been a quiet one cause I didn't hear or notice a thing). Seriously doubt it was vandalism because I'm parked in a secure area on an Air Force base.
So... now gotta deal with my insurance company (yay). According to them, the total cost is $571... [sm=yikesomg.gif]. Guess what my deductible is? $500. I'm thinking I might just pick up the whole tab and not file a claim. [sm=headbang.gif]

Sorry to hear it Yankee. Those are the kinds of things that make you crazy. I've replaced a number of windshields over the years from cracks and rock strikes and I've never once had to pay a deductible. Mine is also $500, but they've always said it's some kind of exclusion. Maybe you can double check with them if your deductible applies?

Sorry about your luck man. I know when CRUSH gets a cracked windshield and it will, I'll cry like a baby.
Some policies include full glass coverage and some do not. Due to the extreme heat in AZ I've always had full glass coverage. The little I pay upfront saves me a bag of money later on.

Well I've learned that glass repair is a separate entity from your usual policy claim - it goes under like a "stuff happens" clause and you're not penalized for making a claim - so I guess I'll save that $71 after all. If your windshield can be "fixed" without replacing it, there's no charge - but if it has to be replaced, you're stuck with paying the deductible .
I don't know if Louisiana has a full glass coverage clause - it gets plenty hot down here but not quite like AZ hot - if it does it's probably way too expensive to consider... but if this gets to be a recurring thing, I just might consider it after all... [&:]

At least you didn't get a bullet through it. I had that happen in my 86 Thunderbird. It was parked along a street and somebody drove past, firing off a .22. Naturally, one slug went through my windshield then lodged in the passenger-side headrest. Aside from having to pay to replace the windshield, I thought it was pretty cool having a car with a bullet lodged in it. My wife, though, was always leery about riding in it again.

Yankee, so sorry to hear that man, speaking of that, I saw a Challenger on the side of the highway when I was coming back from school. It was a nice black R/T and I was really sad to see mopar muscle on the side of the road with the blinkers on.

That really sucks, thats why I keep mine off the road in the winter, just too much sand and junk around here. I am on my 3rd windshield in my FJ in 2 years, all cracked from winter driving.

I hadn't had my Challenger but a week or two . The vehicle in front of me on a 4 lane By pass road decided to getin the left turn lane only 3 car length's from the light. They ran through the gravel on the road most don't . Because they normally are already in the lane long before that. some of it hit my windshield right in my line of view. Two very small chip's in the glass. I was so mad. Hasn't got bigger . And it doesn't stand out as much now . Seem's every time I get a chip in a windshield it stand's out like a diamond to start with. Just hope I don't get anything big enough to have to replace the windshield . But I've only had a few car's that haven't had one replaced.

You know something a bit ironic is that I also have a 78 Firebird Formula - a car that's over 31 years old, and I'd be willing to bet that car still has the original windshield...

i'm pretty sure that the cuda has the original windshield. NOTE: I'm 15 i haven't ever drove or letalone sat in the cuda drivers seat with the enginge running. So please don't even think that "WOW a 40 year old Cuda that has spent it's life in Idaho hasn't had the windshield cracked?" That is a pure asumption. Heck i'm just rambling on about nothing right now. oh. BTW I only have like 5 more post till the big 500th. Ok i'm done talking.
