New Camaro Issues
#11
Performance wise, it's better than the Mustangs and SRTs. But the Fords and Dodges are better built. The s197 Mustangs are very reliable, and the Charger/300 cars (the platform used for the Challenger) are quite reliable as well.
Looks wise, the Mustang and Challenger are gorgeous. While to me, the Camaro looks 'cartoonish'.

My experience with Camaro that is overlooked on the list...is that...Camaro owners are rude jerks. Anytime I've been out in yellow 02 Tbird. classic car or new Challenger and see Camaro, I make big deal to give a wave. Universally, the wave of friendship, cool car guy enthusiast-man-ship is blatantly ignored. Make rude owner/drive number 69 on the list...too easy to make play on words on that one...

Performance wise I guess that 426 HP compared to the 425 HP is better. Can't argue with numbers... 1 HP is 1HP. I just wish they (Car Mags) would actually compare an SS and an SRT-8 on the same day and same place to really compare the two. We have a little more weight but much better gearing. I weighed my R/T on the scales at Z-Max Dragway and with me in it and 1/2 a tank of gas 4108 lbs. I weigh 180. So please tell me where all Challengers are over 4000 lbs. as I have read in every Mag. printed. So until I see an actual SS vs. SRT-8 we will have to live with what the magazines say and give the nod to the SS @ 1 HP performance advantage. I'll just settle it on the street.

Most agree the Camaro is about .2-.3 sec faster in the 1/4 mile. It's the weight that really hurts the Challenger. They usually compare the Camaro to the R/T because their MSRPs are close. The SRT is priced well above the Camaro.
Can you fill me in on what the axle ratios are on the SRT vs the Camaro SS?
And I fully agree, with cars that close, it's a driver's race on the streets.

I have heard numbers thrown around on the Camaro 3:54 for the 6-speed and 3:92 on the R/T and SRT-8 6-speeds. As far as price MSRP I agree. But most people are getting their SSs for a few thousand over MSRP and SRT-8s are going for a few thousand under MSRP. I also agree on the street it will be a drivers race. As far as looks that is subjective.

Man, getting a car to launch with 3.92s can't be easy! Whats the ratio on the autos?
I will say in Austin, the Challengers are still getting marked up.
I drive a Stang, but the Challengers are gorgeous. Dodge and Ford got the retro look down good.

There are no discounts on SRT's in my area either.
