Default challenger of an unkown year

I am trying to restore a challenger and am wondering how to tell what year it is the fender tag is gone, along with the vin, engine and trans are gone all tags are gone except the door sticker that states build date as 69. the car was painted blue over white some time in it's life put now sits in primer. the color of the interior metal is white so is the inside of the door. but the hood that came with it is a 1972 flat hood with the DODGE letters that is also white under the blue. so I'm thinking that the stiker was put there. The car is stripped bare only fenders doors hood and the car are there. Now for the question I know that there was a change to the quarter panel in 1972 but I don't know the slight differences. if any one can tell me how to tell what year my car is.

Do you have side markers that are inset in the fenders and quarter panels (70-71 years) or do they stick out of the fenders(72-74 years)? What does your tail lights look like? This will determin 70 or 71 year. 72-74 all had the same tail lights. If you had pictures it would be easy for me to tell, but if you can describe it I can tell also.

As stated, if the side lamps insert flush with the fenders and quarters, then its 70-71. But if you have a rectangular plastic side lamp that sticks out of the fenders and quarters, then its 72-74. Dodge went to a universal side lamp that would be used by all their cars after 72.

It is a 1970. Challengers that year were built from August 1, 1969 (HEY RLSH700--CHANGE THE TIMELINE-CHALLENGERS WERE FIRST BUILT ON FRIDAY AUGUST 1, BUT DIDN'T HIT SHOWROOM FLOORS UNTIL EARLY SEPTEMBER!) until about June 15, 1970. If you look on the fender tag, there will be a code that reads "000". That is the upper door frame code. Challengers don't have upper door frames, so that is why there is three sets of zeroes. Now, if you look at the code to the right of it, that is your date code. It will read 8 for August, 9 for September, A for October, B for November, and C for December. Now the two numeric codes correspond with the calender date, for example C15 reads December 15.

Also, while the 72-74 challengers used universal indicators that were in use until 1979 or '80. The '70-'71 Challengers actually shared indicator lights with the Dart ranges! However, if you kids really want to make to killing on Ebay, grab the front turn signal indicators and side markers off the '70-'71 Furys. The front marker lights are the same as the Superbird, and the side markers are used on the overpriced 'Cudas that grace the Barrett-Jackson auction floor.
