Default RE: LX vs LY platform

This is part of the reason why I think it would be good for Chrysler to be separated from MB. MB has owned parts of Hyundai/Kia, Mitsubishi, and merged with Chrysler. The first two have improved since they got out from MB's control. Their theory is make the non-Daimler line super cheap to maximize profits and only invest in the Daimler Group. Yeah, that is the model in which Toyota, Honda, and the other growing companies are using. NOT!

Default RE: LX vs LY platform

I am not sure what I am trying to say here but let me see if I can make a point.

We used to have an LX platform. The Dodge Challenger was being moved to the LY platform.

Why because I think Daimler could leverage the cost of the platform over many car models (like Mercedes) and reduce the development and manufacturing costs.

All of that being said and I think the above is accurate, here are my questions:

1. Is the LY platform finished being designed.....hopefully so.

2. Manufacturing costs will be hard to leverage not being part of Daimler.

3. Will the Challenger have the LY platform or will it be changed and ultimately delayed.

Just some thoughts I have. Anybody know any more about the LY platform status.

Default RE: LX vs LC vs LY platform

Some of you have asked about what the current platform the Challenger has.

The current Challenger platform is "LC".

The current 300/Charger/Magnum platform is "LX"

The NEXT 300/Charger platform will be "LY".

The 3rd picture in this HOT ROD articles discusses the differences between the LX and LC platform.

If anybody has a more detailed analysis than this, please let us all know.

They are related but not necessarily the same. The LY is for sedans from what it sounds and the LC is for the Challenger which is a coupe. The LY is pretty much just an updated LX platform.

I would hope the new 2011 due in 3rd quarter might have a smaller platform than the LC which is a shortened LY.

The Challenger still needs to lose about 400 lbs.
