Default HEMI test drivers lookie here...

I for one have never driven a new dodge with a HEMI 5.7 or 6.1. Have any of you driven / test driven / own a Charger or other vehicle with these motors. Can you tell some of us, who have not, what to expect? Thanks!!!

As much as I would like a Challenger 6.1 maybe the 5.7 has plenty of power for me and i'm trying to get a feel for what to expect. I need acceleration!

I am not sure if sick is a strong enough word!

Funny you should ask.....I test drove a Daytona that has the 5.7 and a Magnum SRT-8 this afternoon. They are both powerful, but after driving both I don't think I could anything less that the SRT-8. That 6.1 was unbelievably fast...what an awesome car. I'm waiting for my buddy to grab my wife's Volvo...then I'm off to the Dodge dealer to grab me one....I hope!!! There is a considerable difference, that's for sure.

Wow! I don't think you helped his case in trying to favoring the 5.7L.

I wouldn't doubt it one bit. The 5.7L is not lacking in power by anymeans. I'm sure I'd be more than satisfied with the 5.7L. I was just giving you a hard time Gunslinger.

That awesome! I really can't imagine 425 full injected horses. Looking at the torque / horsepower ranges on both engines, they seem a bit similar. Neither engine goes under 300lbs of torgue through the entire rpm range.

One thing that I did notice is the 6.1 horsepower continues to increase all the way to redline at 6,000. Max hp with the 5.7 is reached at about 5,000 rpms. Most engines begin to fade near the redline including the 5.7 but the 6.1 does not, thats scary.

The decision is an easy one, the 6.1.

The part the is very impressive as you pointed out, bored out, is the point that the 6.1L has both a high amount of torque at a lower rpm as well at the top of the rpm. Many engines that are reach their peak potiential at their top rpm usual have no power down low. The HEMI engines are known for this.

I am seeing the actual Dodge Challenger at a private warehouse where it is being worked on to be sold at a price that is estimated at $800,000. I might also be going for a ride in it. If I do I will let you all know how it feels and if it's what it's cracked up to be.
