Default 2009 Challenger R/T 6-speed dyno numbers

My Challenger R/T has been at Procharger now for 2-1/2 weeks and the suspense was killing me. Since I had to leave the office early to go to the dentist, I finally called and asked if I could come and look at her this afternoon to see how far they had progressed. Well, the nose is off of the car and the intercooler is mounted. It appears that the power steering pump on the 6-speed cars is different from the SRT8's and the automatic R/T's so they are engineering a new bracket. I met the installer and everyone at Procharger has been awesome.

But I digress.

I asked them for my baseline numbers from the dyno pulls before the blower and they printed me a report that said my car was making, at the wheels:

336 HP
369 ft/lb torque

The official ratings are 375 HP and 404 ft/lb of torque so I am looking at a parasitic loss of 11.6% HP and 9.5% torque with the manual trannny. Does that sound about right? To be honest, I was pretty happy with those numbers. Just thought I would post them for reference.

I don't believe that our HP rating is to the wheels.
Some where I believe I read HP to the wheels is more like 292 or something of that sort.

No, the HP rating is at the crankshaft but I thought that everyone would be pretty happy that my car baselined at 336 HP at the wheels.

With a manual transmission car, the rule of thumb is a 15% parasitic loss of horsepower through the driveline. 336 HP X 1.15 = 386.40 - pretty close to the advertised HP.

390 hp @ the crank has been what the dealer told me. They had them rated at 376 HP because they did not want to get too close to the 425 hp of the SRT-8 for only 35 hp more and $5000.00 difference in price. I know that you get more than just hp from the SRT-8 and that means alot. But for some people its all about horsepower. So yeah Mustang and Camaro boys... we only have 376 hp.

My R\T is putting out 366hp and 399 ft\ lb torque per the dyno and the only mods are a CAI, and mufflers.

Nice dyno results!

Either the Challenger has a very efficient driveline, or puts out a little more power than rated.

Obviously 1 dyno to another is not always the same, but those are nice gains over stock with minimal modification.

They are under rated at 376. They have 390ish. Just check out the ratings on the 5.7 Rams.

The bottom line is they have to be grossly under rated. How else can you explain my car going 12.58 @ 110 with minor bolt ons and DR's. No matter how you slice it a 4000 lb car running mid 12's is over 400 hp to the wheels.

alright then...lets do a little experiment.....we need a crankshaft HP dyno, so somebody take your car to the shop and yank it out...then dyno. Maybe a couple people should do that so we can get a good baseline....anybody notice that the dodge website lists a VCT and VVT 5.7L engine. Looks like the VVT comes with the 6spd. I thought they were all VCT?

I wouldn't be surprised if thery were under rated a tad for the whole SRT comparison but a different intake on the trucks could mean big difference in HP between the Rams and our Challengers.

As an example, when Ford did the Fox to SN95 body style in 1994, one big difference was the hood was closer to the engine requiring a lower upper intake for the hood to clear the engine. That change cost the Mustang at least 10 HP from the 1993 to the 1994 Mustang GT.
