Lowering Springs?
Has anyone had any experience with lowering springs? What are the pro's and con's?
I'm thinking of getting the Pro Kit Springs that will lower my R/T 1.7 inches. They're listed for $312.00. Should I get them? Thanks, Jimmy |

Some commentators mention that only installing such springs will shortly ruin the shock absorbers due to excessive compression. Those same commentators recommend that one install a complete package of matched shocks and springs........

I don't see where the shocks would be an issue unless you cut down the bumpstops. If you leave the bumpstops in-tact, there can be no more compression than before you swapped the springs.
That said, I can imagine a shock designed for the shorter springs would be stiffer to prevent encountering said bumpstops. A fellow employee installed a set of Eibach Pro springs on his Magnum without changing anything else. He said the ride was a bit stiffer, but he did not encounter any bottoming out. I plan to install a set on my Challenger. |

I have the Eibach springs - EIB2895140 that are the Mopar approved springs and I am just waiting to install them, raods here have been severly rutted with packed snow, so lowering means havoc getting into my garage, but I have done over 40 lowering kits on various cars and have only seen a few blow the struts only by either too much weight in the back end (BIG ASS STEREOS etc) or just REALLY bad aggressive driving, I ran a lowering spring (Tein) on my lancer wagon 4yrs and through winter and still had the OEM struts on it when I sold it, even carried home a brick bbq surround.

Don't see why it should damage shocks unless it is a Extreme drop, which the pro-kits are not. I have a Eibach's Pro-kit on my Viper and both of my Notchbacks and yet to have issue's with such.
