Shaker
First, no stealing of my idea!
Second, how tough is going to be to put a shaker in there? I like the butterfly vlaves for the intake, but a Shaker is true MoPar glory. I mean, we can't have a Challenger R/T without a Shaker hood, can we? If they can put them into the trucks, dammit, I'm gonna put one in my Challenger! It'll take a whole new hood and some sort of wonky air routing if that intake is too close to the front end, but it's hard to tell from the pix. Anyone find a robust collection of engine compartment pics? |
RE: Shaker
here is a picture of the engine compartment from dodge, including one that i took. the throttle body is so far forward, that you would almost have to run some sort of piping to get air to it from a shaker...unless you changed to a top mount TB intake manifold...then it would be perfect.
it would loook awsome though...hell, ive even seen a shaker on a stratus! but it was not functional |
RE: Shaker
Well, it looks possible. Perhaps some creative folks will make a kit like they've done for the RAM 1500, Charger, and Magnum.
That link I posted of the Dodge RAM with Shaker is factory built. I say Dodge does that for the Challenger! :D |
RE: Shaker
while that was on one of dodge's sema trucks, that hood option was never offered on a dodge truck...[&o]
ive seen magnums with shakers, but they dont work like the original shakers. |
RE: Shaker
I must admit the shaker looks cool but with an intercooled Supercharger, it really serves no purpose.:D
|
RE: Shaker
I really think it looks just fine the way it's been presented thus far. I'm sure the aftermarket will take care of the rest.

RE: Shaker
i wouldnt doubt it one bit...im also curious if the performance division is working on stuff, since they had so much stuff for the srt4 and ptgt...

RE: Shaker
Hey it could be really nice eye candy..;)
|
RE: Shaker
I prefer the current hood scoops on the concept, but agree a "shaker" option would be awesome. It could be accomplished by reversing (w/ modifications obviously) the intake manifold, so the throttle body inlet is at the rear of engine compartment, thus the shaker dumps cool air "behind" it. Stealing the "cowl" effect from the bow tie group... |
RE: Shaker
I love the Raisin Bran hood. "I can count to two scoops."
|
RE: Shaker
...Raisin bran, LOL, beats the hell out of Carbon Fiber... |
RE: Shaker
Some people seem to thing that most of the R/T had mostly a shaker hood but in those days the standard was the dual scoop but for just $97, the buyer could specify the shaker scoop, which mounted to the air cleaner and stuck up through an opening in the hood.
|
RE: Shaker
Well the concept has a CF hood and I sure hope they stick to it for production or I'll find one somewhere.:D
|
RE: Shaker
I think we're safe here, Paladin06. This is one of the things the public has really seemed to like. Carbon fiber with two scoops, it doesn't get much better than that.
|
RE: Shaker
I too also like the CF hood but would prefer very shiny stainless steel (like chrome) butterfly valves in the 2 scoops.
|
RE: Shaker
I think the scoop on the concept looks better then the shaker
|
RE: Shaker
As the owner of a hemi orange, 1970 RT convertible I think the hood looks great the way it is, Just my opinion, yours may very. Im afraid my wife has secretley ordered one.
|
RE: Shaker
id be impressed that she has the connections to order a car that hasnt been slated for production yet?
|
RE: Shaker
Classic Design Concepts which made the Shaker system for the Mach1 Mustang said the Charger unit they already have will work on the Challenger! I'm still hoping for duct work system that will make the OEM hood scoop feed the airbox directly (similar to the concept). Perhaps CDC will do that too
|
RE: Shaker
Now help my underinformed muscle car mind out here.
if you some how slapped a shaker on there now wouldn't it just be alot farther forward. Do you have to have some hookup from the shaker to the intake anyone got pics. that can help me out. |
RE: Shaker
The air is captured via the Shaker then fed through tubing or ducting to the air box. The concept had the ducting integrated into the dual scoop hood and feeding a K&N airfilter directly in front of the throttle body...even more efficient than I just described. But the production version has the airbox in standard, left front position (where the battery would have been), so ducting or tubing off some sort will be necessary.

RE: Shaker
...I bet the G5 Challenger guys are already hard at work on this LOL!
John |
RE: Shaker
The 'Cuda concept car that was built by Metalcrafters had a neat shaker assembly.
I am sure that Dodge took notice and is designing something very similar for the Challenger. ;) |
RE: Shaker
Anyway the G5 guys could look at doing the functional "concept" butterfly valve package or similar:D
