Challenger Article - September 2006
Here is the last page of a 6 page article, most of which was pictures and history plus building the new Challenger thought process.
This last page shown is where most of the meat is regarding what they are going to build next is. Enjoy! |
RE: Challenger Article - September 2006
As you can see the insider information discusses 1st year will be 30K units with a 5.7L. If this is true that is not a lot of units.
This says the 6 speed option may be delayed because it requires crash testing (since it is an integral part of the structure) which would add delay and costs. I guess the lesser 5 speed is not an integral part of the structure? Expect the 6-speed in 2009? Expect to see a 3.5L V-6 and a 5.7L with a 5-speed autostick with a 6.3L in 12 months along with a 6-speed. Personally, I will probably be patient myself to get the version I want. Only $3K more than a comparable Mustang........that would be cool. The only thing is I do not know how accurate this information is, so we will still need to look for data points. Anybody have any? |

Thanks! [8D] |
RE: Challenger Article - September 2006
What magazine was this in? This sounds like I wrote it. $3,000 more. 3.5L, 5.7L, 6.1L, and 6.3-6.4L. Sounds like my speculations. Thanks for posting it.

RE: Challenger Article - September 2006
ill be AMAZED to see the current 6.4 in the challenger, unless its going to be:
1. detuned 2. the price will be ridiculous 3. the viper gets a ton more power before the 6.4L challenger is released. they arent going to sell a $50,000 challenger with 500hp (listed hp of the current 6.4) when they are trying to sell the viper with 505hp for 90 grand. |
RE: Challenger Article - September 2006
By then, the Viper is supposed to have an output north of 600 hp from what I understand. The only complication I can see with the 6.4L is passing the emission standards.
|
RE: Challenger Article - September 2006
still, they charged 90 grand for the 505hp viper..i just cant see them making a challenger reasonably priced with that kind of power.
|
RE: Challenger Article - September 2006
Well at one point 400 hp from the Viper cost around $50,000. 450 hp used to cost $75,000, now you can get 425 hp between $35,000-40,000. Therefore, I wouldn't be a first.
Frankly, the Viper needs a different power plant. They need to make a new V10 out of the HEMI and offer VVT so then it can pass the emissions standards. This would lower the price, raise the output, and potiential. The LA based V10 is too outdated. |

This came out of the Muscle Car Enthusiast and the Dodge Challenger is on the front cover.
I hope everybody could read it. |

hopefully the challenger will be within the reach of "normal people"...as the viper is not, and when the new viper comes out, you can bet that the price isnt going to drop any...[&o]
