I obtain this literature by checking magazine racks at the grocery, Borders and a small local book store on regular basis. Some publications are local Detroit auto industry observer newspapers and are easy to obtain. I receive Chrysler publications by owning a Dodge and participating at the Chrysler Museum. Some I find purely by accident, for example while waiting for auto service I picked up Underhood Service and Custom Whipz.

There are trends to the articles. First were the “spy report” “leaks”. Followed by the introduction at the Detroit Auto Show. The spoof of the rumor of the nude after hours photo shoot came next. Speculation and comparison to Camaro concept occupied a period. Just as press interest was winding down in the summer, Tommy LaSorda made the “Go” announcement and the media was abuzz again. During late summer and fall the concept car made the rounds of the automotive publication test drives. The SEMA show (Fall 06) called attention to the Chrysler crate hemi engines, and the Concept Challenger.

OK, You officially have the Challenger bug! Great compilation of info man. I am curious about the Challenger concept appearances at auto shows or other events. Do you know if they release a schedule of events or is it a secret. There is a show in Phoenix this week but not sure if it is there.

steve, where do you live that you are a WPCM regular?

That is a great resource. Thanks for taking the time for doing that.

1. Mirada, look up my recent posts under new members, "stories from Steve " to learn my background.

2. Chrysler does have a schedule of shows that it does not make public. Sometimes there are conflicting dates. For example, the Challenger Concept made appearances early in the week of Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise, but on Cruise day and the very popular Friday night before, it was not at the Chrysler/Mopar exhibit on Woodward. It had been shipped direct to Pebble Beach for display there.

I do not know of a schedule in Phoenix. You might look up a local dealer network organization. Here in Detroit, the NAIAS is sponsored by the Detroit Automobile Dealars Associaition. Maybe as local Dodge dealer has some pre event news about Challenger appearance.

3. yes I am smitten with Challenger. Please enjoy reading my posts about getting the bug, and my other 1970 Challenger memorabilia collection. postings under new member area and Chalenger merchandise.
Steve

funny that you mention about the challenger not being on woodward, as they went on and on about it being there, but i was all over woodward that day, and saw nothing...i then saw pictures of the challenger pulling into a parking lot, with the obvious dream cruise traffic behind it, but it appeared to be doctored to me...evidently, i was right...

steve, youve mentioned having corporate ties, perhaps you could check the validity behind the information that i received from two people in the chrysler HQ, who told me that there were 7 more challengers built, not by MC, sometime late this summer...

RE: Concept Challenger in the press

Challenger was out on Wednesday of Dream Cruise week. Detroit news article and photos talked about being upstaged by Camaro concept and group of Camaro owners driving by where press and photo op was taking place.

I hope to have my 1970 done in time to maybe help Chrysler with payback of Mopars blasting a Camaro press launch.

Sorry, Mirada, I don't have an in at Chrysler.
Steve

Are you a Michigander too?
My Challenger is not yet done and not yet road worthy.
I live in Farmington Hills, and my Dental office is in Lincoln Park.

I am setting up and event for retro Thunderbird owners here in Detroit for next summer. The WPC Museum is one of our visits. I was there making arrangements.

Man, you guys are lucky, wish I lived close to the museum. It sucks that the museum magazine was discontinued. I am a WPCM member and have been for the last 5 years. I really looked forward to it and now......I am however planning on taking my Challenger there for an informal photo shoot next year,(summer 07),.

RE: Concept Challenger in the press

how far away are you? i was also a little upset about the magazine being discontinued...they stated that they had money issues, but we wanted to get married in the museum, and we told them that if we needed to, we would pay for EVERYONE to get in...that would have been 60-70 admissions, and we offered to pay extra for use of a small area...we just wanted to get married there, but they refused even when we told them our background. amanda said "well, the ford museum does weddings", and their reply was:

"the get married there."

Terre Haute Ind. 1 hr west of INDY on the Ind./Ill. border. Yeah thats a shame. I, like you, would buy DaimlerChrysler toilet paper if it was offered. My personal reading material is ALL Chrysler and videos as well I am not a rich person but am wealthy with knowledge and health/friends/family, that is why hearing this hurts me so. We could be import, gm, ford ecttt but we chose Chrysler, they should re-think this unwise injustice done to you and your family, How great an honor to bestow on an establishment to honor their products with a vow to GOD till the end, and they STILL dont see the point, I wonder if David Hakim would be imterested in this. Above all was the childish way they referred you to dearborn!!! Horace, John, Breer, Skelton,Owen and the Boss Walter would all be spinnin in thier graves man if they heard about this. I dont blame you if you went out and bought a Ford.

RE: Concept Challenger in the press

well, i would never buy a ford...however, the new Vette appeals to me...when i was little, my mom and dad both had red vette drop tops with white interior...one was a 327, the other was a 350, both built. they sold them both when i was very little.

the people at the WPCM did tell us that we were welcomed to have our pictures taken at the museum...i thought that it would make for an amazingly memorable wedding for us and the guests. we even went so far as to go up the ladder and call pretty much anyone at the HQ who would listen, but they all referred us to the person in charge at the museum...

for those who dont know, my fiancee and i both love mopars...most people assume that she got into mopars because of my passion for them, but she had as big of a collection of dodge stuff (if not bigger) as i did before we met! so, our love for the brand brought us together as friends, and things progressed from there...she has an abstract dodge tattoo on her lower back...and we have a small museum of collectibles in our house...

Your a lucky man 1badmirada, my wife would sell my R/T for a dollar she hates cars! She does, however share my second "love" which is dogs. I have four, chocolate lab, 2 miniature Dachshunds, and a Bishon Frise we rescued after the owners wanted to euthanise him because he was of little use to them. My Dodges are as follows my R/T of course and my 1990 PowerRam W-150 4x4, 2002 Dodge Ram CTD 4x4, H/O 6-speed, SLT+, and my wifes Jeep. I wouldnt own anything else. Corvettes are really cool and my chidhood is filled with memories of some pretty fast StingRays floating around town! The new Z06 is an incredible car and a bargain for what you get. I hope this forces Ma MoPar to exceed the engineering parameters of the Z06 with the all-new McClaren fortified Viper SRT-10? Rumors are 610 H.P. with the V-10. Its also lame that the V.I.P.s at DC didnt accomodate you. I will some day, maybe this summer, I WILL travel to the WPC museum and have my cars pic taken in front of it. My first car in 1975, was 1970 Plymouth Superbird 440-6, auto, Yellow, 26k miles, had it all of two weeks and had to get rid of it. Insurance was 1800.00 bucks a year.! I was heartbroken and my parents made me sell.(I couldnt afford the insurance anyway). My determination to one day own a classic piece of moPar history was solidified on fri. March 13, 1998 when I "found" the Challenger, I am truly grateful and in debt till Im oh, 98 years old!![sm=alcoholic.gif]
