RE: Dodge Challenger: A blast from the past

High performance cars ARE GREAT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT because most of the time they are kept in a garage!
$100,000+ cars like the Ferrari F430 and Ford GT are rarely driven! Seems like the more expensive the car, the less it is driven.
So I think the government should allow an unlimited number of cars to be built which have over 400 HP and cost over 40K.

I'm not going to disagree with that train of thought. It blows my mind that a person who is already paying more in taxes through gasoline, has to pay a tax for something that is going to lead to paying more in taxes in the long run, while the people are given tax incentives to buy something that is going to lead to paying less in taxes. And on top of this, it isn't that these cars are driven by the poor (as many of them can't afford it anyways) as this also includes really expensive vehicles that really are not that fuel efficient. What since does this make?

Also something else to consider, these cars are not going to be allowed by the owners to become junk piles and let off emissions like other car owners will because they respect their car. They also will use higher grade fuel which has more detergents that would be helpful for the environment. It's funny how backwards things are when you really think about it.

The author does have a somewhat negative tone, but the goodness of this car shines through any bias and he must have enough journalistic principle to allow some of the truth to escape.....this passage especially....

There was, unfortunately, nowhere to hide the weight. At 4,140 pounds, the Challenger's poundage is the consequence of the project's short development and low budget (taking weight out of a car costs a lot of time and money). Still, there's no denying 425-hp, 420-torque V8 under the hood. This is big, cackling, evil-sounding thrust, with an angry lunge off the line and a peaky, on-the-cam feel in the upper registers. Zero-to-60-mph accel is about 5 seconds (the exhaust note has been engineered to sound like the old car) but the Challenger makes its happiest/orneriest noises at 5,000 rpm in third gear, as it snatches the air from the passing lane.
