Higher Horsepower & Torque for the 5.7L HEMI

This makes my Challenger decision much easier - R/T with the TREMEC. |
RE: Higher Horsepower & Torque for the 5.7L HEMI
But is this definitely going to make it into the 09 Challengers? I hope so since it wouldn't make much sense to put out a 340hp version and then outdo it right away with 380hp the next year. Also could that mean the price would be higher than expected for the R/T?

Should we assume the Charger will get a boost for 2009 then too?

If the Viper is removed from production, this would not limit the perfomance of the Dodge CHallenger engine and Dodge could put anything they wanted to in it.
That being said, gimme a 6.5L/MDS/VVT/Manual transmission and watch me smile very big. :D |

They stuffed the SRT10 motor in a pickup truck, why not the Challenger? OMG - What am I thinking? My wife is right! I'm NEVER satisfied! |
RE: Higher Horsepower & Torque for the 5.7L HEMI
I have a 2008 ordered, I hope I get it. I can't wait to put some air shocks on the rear and raise it up like we did in the 70's.

RE: Higher Horsepower & Torque for the 5.7L HEMI
I raised the rear on my old 1971 'Cuda with Gabriel Hijacker air shocks to install wider tires. It looked cool but it screwed up the handling. Do you want to mess up the handling on a new Challenger? [sm=badidea.gif]

RE: Higher Horsepower & Torque for the 5.7L HEMI
i dont want any parts of a V10 challenger, and i dont think that dodge does either...unless the viper is scraped. it would cost a fortune to modify, much like the viper.
however, at 4200lbs, 380hp is sadly not going to be enough to outrun the 300hp mustang gt...there are guys with almost stock GTs in the high 12s, and the same goes for the srt8 sedans...the challenger will likely be a bit quicker than that with the manual trans and the 6.1, but seeing as how the 5.7L sedans are only in the low 14s to high 13s, the 380hp version may only be into the mid 13s, making it fairly easy prey for the mustang...[:@] |
RE: Higher Horsepower & Torque for the 5.7L HEMI
The current 300 hp Mustang GT isn't THAT quick (stock ones, of course). I had an 04 GTO with the 350 hp LS1 and it weighed in at a porky 3800-3900 lbs and I had no problem dusting off plenty of current Mustang GTs all day long, so I have no doubt that a 380 hp Challenger would be able to do the same with ease.
Personally I don't think the Challenger is going to weigh 4200 lbs - I know the concept supposedly did, but my "guesstimation" would be around 3900 or so for the production model. Still way too much, I'll grant you, but you can't expect much lighter in this day of all the required electronics, air bags, smart-suspension systems (or whatever you call them). I think Ford is going to up the hp on the 4.6 to 350 for 09 (or 010), so the 5.7 Hemi's horsepower boost couldn't have come at a better time. I only hope a hp boost for the 6.1 isn't far behind. |

That alone will make a BIG difference. Obviously you have more experience than most of us, Patrick, and would be able to crunch the numbers better. But I think the only way we'll know for sure is when one of the new 5.7's is bolted up to the TREMEC and running a timed 1/4 mile. The R/T should be capable of satisfying all of MY needs - including dusting off any Mustangs. Then again, it'll only take one loss for me to decide to plumb in a ZEX wet kit. |

What happened when you woke up? Go get a 6.0 liter and come talk to me.
