Late to the Game
This article makes a good point although some facts are in error.
Another good point.

The 2008 Challenger SRT8 is a limited edition...Dealers ordered a bunch and some are still available, if you are willing to pay a premium.
Don't do it. The 2009 Challenger SRT8 goes into production in August and will be in dealerships this fall along with the V6-powered Challenger SE and the Challenger R/T, which will have the "little" 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood.

Sure, it's great being the first in your Mopar club to have an '08 SRT8, but any modifications will mar its limited-edition status and resale value.
But the '09 model is fair game.

I would wait for the 09 SRT and R/T because of the manual, well those who love manual.
I tired of the manual transmission long ago, that is why I went with Automatic. I hate manual especially in congested traffic, L.A. freeways [>:]
But for the rest of you go for-it more power to ya.

Damn straight, mopar. And at the prices the 08s are going for, not only should they shift automatically, they should drive themselves up to the front door when you whistle.

I deal with my fair share of traffic (though not as bad as LA), and I still prefer the manual. To me it makes the driving experience that much more viceral. Id settle for a paddle shifter, but the "slapstick" just doesnt do it for me.
Though, Ive recently read that the predator tuner allows you to remove the forced automatic shifts in manual mode. If thats the case, I could probably live with it, but I still prefer a clutch.
(Reduces the amount of people asking me if they can borrow my car too.)
