I believe this is by far the best comparison I've seen to date. 2011 Mustang against the 2010 Mopar and GM. I still think that if you are going to compare performance then its best to use the cars that will compete head to head. SRT-8 to SS to GT. To finish second in a race of three is like kissing your sister but finishing third would be like??? The HP and torque from the 6.1 shows itself to be the more powerful of the 3. Just the weight is holding it back. Handling and braking is superior or equal to the SS. Now lets see what 2011 holds for the SRT-8 Challenger and SS. Hint 6.4!!!!

6.4 a definate improvement in both torque and horsepower. VVT means longer flatter torque curve. More useable power. 6.4 is using the tech from the 5.7. And we know what an improvement that was. Look at the 5.7 2008. Then look what the 5.7 of 2009 does. I think you all will see 475 to 500 out of the 6.4... bank on it.

Believe me its closer to 390 HP. Theres rear wheel horsepower dynos on stock R/Ts showing close to 400 HP. That is one reason they need to up the SRT-8s #s. It would be real hard to convince buyers to buy SRT-8 over R/T for 25 HP gain. So its best to under rate the R/Ts. Just look at what the 2009 5.7 Rams were rated at 390 HP. I still think there is room for more power stock. Exhaust manifold on 5.7 could use the shorties they use on the 6.1 to gain some as well as a bump in timing and a higher redline. Just to mention a few that a backyard mechanic would improve on.

the rams have more power in there 5.7's cause they have taller intakes trucks always put out a little more than the cars and if R/T Challenger were actually putting out 390 hp to the rear wheels there 1/4 mile times would be faster

Here's a HP calculator that use ET and MPH, the MPH is the more accurate of the two and has been used for years, maybe since 1/4 mile drag racing started. Be sure to use scale weight as raced (with driver and equipment and fuel load), shipping weight or manufacturer's stated or title weight are not accurate, and will give false numbers. Shows my '73 that runs high 11's with a little over 410 hp to the wheels.

Here's another one that shows it's making 450 HP with the same numbers punched in, it's kinda like dynos, keep racing dynos till ya find one that gives you the numbers your looking for!

The first one is figuring HP at the wheels and this one is at the crank.
