Has anyone had to use the factory air compressor as a spare?

I am wondering how effective the compressor is? My opinion is that if you have anything but a nail puncture you probably have to call a wrecker.

I haven't used it, but that concern over having a tire failure that it can't help with & possibly having to leave the car sit for awhile in a dangerous place is what prompted me to track down a spare for it. I spoke to my Dodge dealer & learned that a spare for a Charger R/T is the same part # as called for by the Challenger and after hearing he wanted nearly $300 for a spare tire & rim & mounting fee, I called all around & found a junkyard that had a Charger R/T spare rim w/tire for $132 after tax. Bought it & found that it fits FINE in the well under the trunk floor after i pulled out the styrofoam box. I'll try to post a picture if anyone wants to see how it fits in my trunk.

I think the Charger spare is a great idea. I tried out the air compressor a few weeks ago at the track. I had let my tire pressure down to 20 psi.....took about 15 minuets to get each tire back up to 30 psi. Plus that air compressor was smoking hot after using it that long.

Here's a photo of the Charger spare stowed away in my Challenger.

Glad to see you, too have the ever-popular cardboard box in your trunk.

I wish I'd have known about the Charger spare fitting. I could have saved the $300 to get a spare ordered.

One thing I've discovered: The styrofoam box makes an excellent cat toy. We have two kittens, and they love to play with it.

I bought a Charger spare, jack, lug wrench and the hold down on Ebay yesterday. $132.00 including shipping.
