INSTALLED MOPAR CAI TODAY

Installed cai today, job went smooth and quick. Fired motor up and went for a ride and noticed a popping sound like a backfire when shifting 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. auto trans using slap shift. Thinking probably needs tuning

I'm not real sure here... but you might be able to unhook the Neg. battery cable and reset the computor. Hopefully someone will post whos 100% sure:D

RE: INSTALLED MOPAR CAI TODAY

Do the instructions indicate it requires re-tuning?

I read somewhere that these engines use Speed Density calculations for air/fuel management and are much more forgiving to CAIs than Ford's Mass Air Flow methods which require a re-tune if the CAI is even slightly bigger in intereior diameter than stock.

I also read that the engine will "learn" the new airflow and compensate for it by dialing things back to nearly within spec without a seperate tuner. So HP gains will be greater immediately following the CAI install than after a few more runs.

Give the car a few more drives and see how it is.

It also could be better "inhaling" is aiding better "exhaling" from your HEMI. I noticed a slightly louder exhaust after installing a CAI on my Mustang a few years ago.

Thanx for the info, it does appear to be running better each time i take it out. Still planning to purchase a tuner and with the cai and exhaust mods it would'nt hurt

What is a CAI ? I'm used to Holly's and Q Jets . And never like the Thermoquad that came on my 71 Challenger R/T 340 .

No a tune should not be necessary. I put the Mopar CAI on my car at less then 500 miles and now at 2900 it's stronger everyday. Drive it for awhile and let the PCM learn to new air flow.
