anyone know what this thing is for?

09 R/T 6speed - I have asked around locally and no one knows why it's there.... if anyone has any ideas let me know. It's more out of curiosity, I am going to be replacing it with a cold air intake soon.

That, my freind is for the noise police. That intake expansion tank helps keep air intake noise down, allowing the incoming air to expand, contract in that tank rather than pulsate with the actual intake air needs. I'd consider cutting that off completely and sealing the hole but I will be adding a CAI kit soon enough as you will be.

Thats it, just to keep noise down. It does not really hurt anything if you keep the stock air intake on. But these engines need to breath so install a CAI.

Its a fun NaZi, a CAI will take care of that, when I took mine off I thought I put on an exhaust in the front, Noise like the Lord intended!

But how do you remove this and seal it? I amgetting a K&N 63-1114 and will have the same problem.

If your K&N is the intake kit , it will replace all of the plastic parts from the Throttle body forward. That includes this intake expansion chamber. You'll just need to unbolt it and any brakets holding it in place.

no need to seasl anything, there should be a pipe the comes up from the bottom towards the front of the inner fender type area, it's just more air intake for the factory system, doesn't hurt to have the extra air still porting up...

Sure...that keeps the pulsating growl of that hemi sucking air under the goverments watchful eye. Ditch it when your cold air kit comes.
