Ctach cans, why are they needed at all?

Up until recently I've never even heard of catch cans however, I've been driving various GM models all of my life. My 10 SRT8 is my first Dodge automobile, I'm a happy camper. But almost every fellow enthusiast I talk to says I need to put one on my car. So what's up with that? Is this just a Chrysler thing or are GM & Ford owners in denial about this? A little history and anything else would be useful at this juncture. I do want to do the right thing by my car I just don't know why I've never heard of Catch cans before. So anything about their use use & history would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks RUBBERBANDMAN for the thread nod. So I'm guessing even after I have a catch can installed I'll still end up having to have my car engines throttle body cleaned or will the catch can over time eventually capture the oily residue that's where its NOT supposed to be?

The catch can will stop your engine from burning almost all of that oily gunk. As a result, the throttle body, valves, and cylinder where it is burned will stay much cleaner and you will not lose performance as your engine ages.

They are especially important if you are using synthetic oil. Oils such as Mobil 1 do not burn very well, compared to DINO oils.

Thanks again Rubberbandman. I will in fact be using Mobil1 synthetic oil as recommended by the factory. So are these catch cans recommended for nay high performance engine other than a Chrysler? Just curious?

I believe the factory would put them in except you have to rely on the customer to empty it out. And we all know how that would be for the non enthusiest. Unless you put one on yourself, you will not empty one out. And drain back to the oil pan would be just as bad as going through the intake track. I like them and know they work.

catch can

you can achieve the same result by running a longer line to the underside, not environmental, but look at the Gulf Coast right now

That option was availble on the early Aston Martin's, but because of a guy by the name of James Bond, they dropped the option.
