Exhaust recommendations

Hi All,

I just bought a 2009 Challenger RT and was wondering if anyone can recommend some exhaust modifications in regards to mufflers.

Thanks!

Other than the sound did anyone see any HP gains? What was the part number for the Magana flow you installed?

I'm not really digging the sound on the MagnaFlow website actually. (maybe cuz I'm a Sound Guy) I hope they sound better then that in person.

Do any of these exhaust systems let you keep your square tips?
I like them much better the round ones by far

Replace resonators with straight pipe, and cut out the stock mufflers and put in Flowmaster Super 44's. Good times :D

I just put on SLP Loudmouth catback. Sounds amazing but VERY loud. I like it just fine but it may not be for everyone. Sounds like you are in an old hemi with cherry bombs AWESOME! but yup loud!

I priced the Magnaflow Cat-Back System. They wanted over $1400 for it. Then took the car to a local muffler shop that specializes in performance installs. The owner cut everything off aft of the X-Pipe and put on Magnaflow mufflers with straight pipes out the back and used my stock tips. Charged me $650 and did a spectacular job including painting the pipes hi-temp black. I love the sound, and the price is definitely right!

From everything I've heard, nearly every "more agressive" system causes highway drone. Some guys are complaining of headaches after only an hour of highway driving with other systems. I'm not going to list system names since I think it's a matter of opinion and don't want to whizz on anyone's personal preferences.
Corsa is the ONLY system I haven't heard anyone complain about highway drone. It may not be as agressive a sound as other systems, but the performance increase, improved sound and lack of drone are enough to convince me. Cheapest I've seen the CatBack Corsa for the SRT is $1305.00 - online - and then add installation costs. Lifetime warranty makes it worth the price.

Can't complain one bit about Corsa quality/product. I have it on my Viper and not a drop of drone, love the kit!

You're right BootCamp, mine definitely does have a bit of a drone, but all things considered, I do like the sound. :D

I deleted the rear resonators and mounted a pair of Flowmaster Super 44s in place of the stock mufflers. Here is a short vid I took before and after the swap. I still have not driven the car, so I cannot report on "drone" issues. Personally, it will not bother me a bit if it happens to be loud on the inside. I am a hot rod guy to the core, and a car like this should sound as good as it looks. It's not my daily driver, either;)

That sounds very nice novawagonmaster. Here's a vid of mine. This isn't my exact car, but it is the "same" (5.7 Hemi) with the exact same setup right down to the hi-temp black on the pipes. These are the folks who did mine (Kinney Muffler in Hurst, Texas) and it give a nice video of the attention to detail under the car:

has anyone heard Flowmaster's American Thunder Cat-Back kit for 2009 Dodge Challenger 5.7L Hemi. i like loud. But i do like the corsa setup even tho i think i t will be more quiet. however the flowmaster is half the cost of the corsa. i have flows on my duster and i love the sound.

BootCamp 08-10-2009 04:01 AM

I know a number of folks who bought the FlowMaster system weren't pleased with the drone at highway speed, nor the fit of the system.

I just installed the Corsa catback system on my SRT8 yesterday. Yup, it's quiet when you want it quiet, and obnoxious when you mash the throttle down. The fit was excellent and only took minor fussing with to get the tips to line up correctly. The sound is excellent too.
Granted, the Corsa system is pricey, but if you shop around for the best deal (and look for "online discount codes"), bargains can be found.
My Corsa cat-back system cost me $1,169.10, including S&H. I thought that was a very good deal.
:D

BootCamp 08-13-2009 06:48 AM

Forgot to mention, the Corsa 14138 Cat Back system for the SRT8's was $1,299.00 at http://www.streetsideauto.com/ . If you enter coupon code "SSAWINNER09", you get another 10% off, bringing the final price to $1,169.10. They FedEx shipped mine - standard - and the system I ordered last Monday night was on my front steps last Wednesday morning - 36 hours later. (I've seen this system retail for over $1,700.00 at some "famous" race parts shops.)
Awesome!

breck 08-14-2009 05:36 AM

I ordered magnaflow competition series 16515. i love the look and the sound. there is a website, planetmagnaflow.com where you can enter "your price." they can match it or shoot you a quote. i think i got them to around $800.
