will 6pack rods fit in a 426 hemi
ok, I got six pack rods with casting # 1851535 which according to http://www.mek1.se/chopper/dart/tech/rods.htm should fit the 426, so will the same rods fit the 426 hemi? I read elsewhere that they were not standard in the 426 hemi. Well, I also have a set of rods that I was told were six pack rods but the numbers don't match up. On one side, it has DF14 MS3049 and I think the other sides has 2951908 so what I want to know is if they are six pack rods and if they will fit the 426 hemi
someone please let me know, thanks Dan |
RE: will 6pack rods fit in a 426 hemi
I wish I could sware to this, but it's been a long time....
The 1851535 rod's are short deck (426) rods with a length of 6.358 The 2951908 rod's are beefed six pack rods. The length is 6.768 and used in RB raised deck applications. |
RE: will 6pack rods fit in a 426 hemi
The six pack rods fit 440 cid only. They were used in all 440s after 1972 because they were beefier. Today we go for lighter and stronger:D But most puriest still go for the six pack rods when building a 440. I have a 1976 440 and plan a rebuild in the future, I will see for a fact if the 440 six pack rod theory is true;)

RE: will 6pack rods fit in a 426 hemi
so when you say the 1851535 will fit 426, you mean the hemi right? what does the short deck mean? I'm not sure if there is a difference. On the 1851535 rods where factory pistons with casting #s can someone tell me what they are? 3671217 12 09104 3671218, according to http://www.jccpiston.com/manufacturer/16775/16775.html it looks like it was from a 440 V8 1972-78 (J218)
can someone confirm or deny this? I'm building a hemi engine with the newer mopar block with Indy heads and other parts, need pistions and want to know if these will fit, please help |
RE: will 6pack rods fit in a 426 hemi
I have not worked on any Hemi engines and I'm not too familiar with the part #s. B and RB are the abb. for B block and raised B block. B=440 and RB= 383 and 400. When the blocks are bare the 440 will have a tab and 383 and 400 will go straight across the front where the front intake bar bolts down. I hope someone can chime in who has expierence with the Hemi engine and knows where to find the #s you need.
