It really is crazy when you think about it. 10 grand for half a car. I passed on a 71 convertable for $4500 about 8 years ago that needed total resto.
I kick myself now that I didn't buy it. [sm=headbang.gif]

Makes the $300 my dad paid for mine in '89 seem like and absolute STEAL.

Did you guys also notice that the firewall is for an ac car and there is no ac code on the fender tag. This car is extremely suspicious as a car that someone is trying to pass off as an R/T. It is possible that someone replaced the firewall. I believe that this is not the original body to this VIN. I hope whoever paid that much money knew this. I am just saying that we need to be careful out there, With the value of these cars there are some shady characters to deal with.

I can't belief that car went for that much. I guess we are lucky for getting our challengers earlier. I paid a little of that amount for mine 9 years ago. At the time I thought it was a little of the pricey, but it was in great condition. I'm glad I bought it, even if it didn't increase in value.

I saw it and bought it for my wife. It has the right numbers on the cowel and some bonehead added a/c and swapped the lower firewall.

They did a lousy job but I'll put it back right. I knew I kept the hulls from the wrecked parts cars for a reason.

The radiator support was swapped from front end damage.

I'll have that car done and on the road for another $20k!

It is a real 383 convertible and I've always loved B3!!!!

Show me another restored big block convertible for $30k.

Somebody try us out. We do great work at a great price.

I did not mean to offend anyone. Just trying to raise awareness. I would love to see some pictures as you progress on the car's restoration. Do the Palco door panels fit well. I have a original 70 383 4 bbl that I had restored for around $20,000. Not a very good job for showing but ok for driving around the street.

AMCR, I would also like to see the resto in progress,I did mine in 1984, it was a driver then and no where near what you will be going thru. There were only 1,070 Challenger R/T convertibles made. You have a rare find.

RE: Anybody see this 70 convertible?

WOW talk about connection. Nice find! Please keep us up to date on the progress and send lots of pictures please.:D This kind of reminds me of a second chance like they have for older dogs and cats. But this is a second chance for a nice convertible Challenger. Who would believe back in the 70s that today these cars would go for big bucks. Even the stripped and left for dead are bringing more money than what they sold for new. Way to snatch one out of the crusher.:)

Thatnks guys! It makes me feel warm inside knowing that I've found some kindred spirits.

I'll be happy to post the progree as I get into it but I might have a few other surprises for you too.

If you think that Challenger Convertible is bad, just wait until I post some of the rough ones! LOL

Most of my own cars are or were pretty rough. I blessed to have the ability, not to mention a business partner who is a master body man, to find some very rare cars in some very strange places for some very good prices. I don't sell my treasures but I've been finding them and stashing them away for nearly 20 years.

I'll keep you posted and load lots of pictures as we go but for now, just some hints:

Like convertibles do you? How about 6 packs? How about a Six pack convertible? How about a '71 J6 Hemi? Or an N96 Six pack? High Impact Colors?

That's just the Challengers! But I'm not biased - I love other Dodges and Plymouths too!!!

Check out my '36 Dodge Truck. It has a 1,000 HP Blown Hemi and it is for real! It's Know as the Super Goat.

That truck is pretty radical and has a lot of Mopar hints. Is the HEMI a 426 or one of the Red Rams 392, 354 ect. That truck is a real looker and demands your attention on the street.:D Take care and enjoy that sweet ride.

RE: Anybody see this 70 convertible?

It's a KB 500 inch (426 style) and it's way too much to handle on the street.

It will light up the tires and fry them off in 4th gear from an idle with about 1/2 pedal. As a result, it has about 20 miles on it.

But I still love it!

You should see it up close. Washers are all pentastars, as is the side mirror, etc. I think I'm going to start trailering it to shows next year.

Thanks again!

My stepdad got lucky. He got his 1970 Challenger in '79 for $90. 1970 Challenger R/T HEMI 426 convertible with the 4spd pistol grip, which was somehow upgraded to a 1971, actually making it like one of a kind. Though it needs a hell of a lot of work at the moment.

Do you have any pictures of this car, please post. I'd love to see it in its present shape.

RE: Anybody see this 70 convertible?

Wes, very lucky indeed, There were less that 10 made and I've taken pictures of 4 of them.

RE: Anybody see this 70 convertible?

It's titled as a 1971 model, but it was traced back to where it started life in June of 1970... it was a late 1970 that was factory rebuilt into a 1971.

As far as pictures go, I will have them as soon as possible. Though be warned, the condition is rough, and the car is quite bare at the moment.
