"B" Pillar post
 

Another comment on the new concept car. I noticed it does not have a "B" pillar. When I had my 73 Challenger I remember when I shut the door the massive driver window would shake.
Either it has to be built better or add a "B" pillar for ridigity.

The Mustang is using the same technique as the Porsche. When you open the door the window opens just a bit (about .5 inches) and after it shuts it completely closes into the "B" pillar. Now that is finesse.

mustang and finesse? thats like bull and eloquent...

but anyway...i know what you mean...my mirada does the same thing when i close the door..however, my stratus does not have a window frame, and it does not do this...i think that one of the reasons that newer cars do not, is the ark of the window..many newer cars have much steeper curves to the side glass than did your challenger, or my mirada, and that angle may keep more tension on things inside the door..?

I had not seen much bristling to the addition of the "B Pillar" but I think it is gonna look like crap. Any other folks care to weigh in on it? I am also concerned about gutter strips as it looks like the spy shots show that feature. I guess I never paid much attention but it seems like 98% of the cars on the road have them & I can't help but notice just how crappy (thee I go again) they look as well.

I love the idea of keeping the car stock completely but is it bad to modify those things?

awsure.....you have been on this forum for a long time. No it is not going to look like crap.......it will look like an awesome Challenger that it is.

You will love what the "B" pillar does for you in road handling. Enjoy it.

If you don't like the way it looks, you can always buy another car on the market. Jeremiah had some good points to consider. I'm suprised you would dig up such an old thread like this. This was probably one of the first threads in this section.

1st off I did not want to start a thread on a topic where one already existed so I just poked around until I found one I could add to...I actually did not even notice the date. I have seen others chided for starting a new thread on something already posted on before & thought that was proper etiquette. My bad I guess...

Back to the point of my question ( BTW - I know I can buy another car on the market...I think I've made it pretty plain I want a Challenger) which you missed was about modifying these things.

awsure....thank you for not generating another post about the "B" pillar. In the last 4 months we have covered the same topics we covered a year ago
and we have beaten most of them to death. If somebody wants to talk about them some more, read the old ones figure out if your question has been answered
and if not then just add to the older threads. Don't create another post on a topic that we have already talked about to death because you are too lazy to do a search.

IIRC, a GM source, has said that the Camaro's B pillar will save around 100 lb. (no need to beef up the roof to comply with crush standards).

I suspect that a similar weight savings could be realized on the Challenger. This could mean .12-.15 sec. less in the 1/4. ;)

As much as I'd like a true hardtop Challenger, I don't think there's any way the safety sphincter police will allow it. It's hardly a dealbreaker anyway. And besides, the car is a big enough porker as it is, it doesn't need another 100 lbs or so in extra hardware necessary to support the hardtop. For true hardtop fans, looks like a $300,000 Bentley Coupe is your only choice.

Awsure, I feel your pain. The B-Pillar is a compromise in style. It has it's practical reasons, but practicality isn't the main point of the Challenger. With that said, the B-Pillar takes away probably 1% of the cars visual impact for me.

I am going to try not to agonize too much about the little details until I see the final production version unveiled. It will either still have it's mojo, or not. And then I will buy it, or not, based on the result. But probably not til 09.
