Default 0-60/qtr mile time predictions for R/T Challenger

I'm curious to see what people who have had experience with Charger R/T's (stock) will think the Challenger will do with the revamped 5.7 engine and a six speed manual tranny in the 0-60 and quarter mile department? I'm most interesed on how it will do against the Mustang GT stock with a five speed tranny. We also have to keep in mind the challenger will have different rear end gearing for the 6-speed.

That will be very hard to call as the 0-60 runs vary a lot on the 5.7L. The fastest I have ever seen is 5.3 secs on the 300C a few times, the slowest from a credible outlet I have seen is 5.9 secs. I'm going to go with an average of 5.6 secs for the LX cars currently. Taking into account there will be at least a 40hp boost & 14ft-lbs of tq boost with a more consistent range of power, I would guess that it should do it at least in 5.3 secs for the automatic and 5.1 secs for the manual, but I'm no expert.

The April 2008 Motor Trend tested a 2008 Charger R/T with the Road and Track Performance Package. It did a 5.5 sec. 0-60 mph run. The R/T Challenger should do a little bit better if the hp of the 5.7 is increased from 330 to 350-380 hp.

Well the Charger R/T depending on which package you got whether it is the standard R/T (produces about 340 hp) or Road and Track Performance Package R/T and Daytona R/T (350 hp) with the same amount of tq at 390 ft-lbs. The Ram's increase was from 345hp & 375ft-lbs to 380hp & 404ft-lbs. At this point we really don't know for sure what it will produce precisely but estimate around 375-385hp & at least 404ft-lbs of tq. The problem is that the numbers are far too inconsistent to say for sure what the acceleration time is on the 5.7L that it is hard to say on top of the fact that we don't know how much hp & ft-lbs of tq it will produce.

Forget the R/T, when the SRT's on the rental lots are ready to be sold, buy one of those at a cheaper price. Just be sure to bring a car appraisal mechanic with you and pay him $100 to make sure you are getting a car in good condititon.
