Advice: Six Months Idle

Well I did a search and surprising didn't find anything really. Here is the scenario, I'll be in Iraq for six months, the wife doesn't drive stick. Gas stabilizer and have her start it once in while? Have a friend drive it once in while, thinking tire flat spots?

So advice on six month idle time in the garage for our cars will be appreciated.

I seen your post on Challengertalk also. All the posts on the other forum were right on.I have a 1994 Z-28 1LE and I still have the original tires. The car has only 5000 miles and I only get it out once or twice a year.It is in a Car Capsule inflatable bubble.I keep the tires slightly overinflated and(knock on wood) never had any tire flat spots.I don,t leave the battery in the car cause it isn,t driven enough.I have other cars that use the same batt.so I float it from time to time and keep it stored out of the cars. You will want to research your tenders output cause the cars electronics may drain more than your tender can overcome.

Jackstands... then just enough to get the tires weight off. That should take car of the tires. But only 6 months you should be fine just leaving it like it is. Also if she needed the car moved it would be difficult with the jack stands in place. Never know when you might need to move a car.

2007HemiCuda,
I basically store my car for the Winter starting in November and it returns to use in late March as a rule (started Fall 2008 with my 09 R/T). No PA salt/chemicals for me! I jack it up and put it on curved wheel dollies (to avoid flattened tires) and this allows me to pull/push it over into empty garage space. The curved wheel dollies were about $130 at the time I got them from a tool catalog (some years ago). I read in the manual that when storing the car, you do want to run it about every 2 weeks with the AC on. This helps with various seals and the compressor if I recall right. I've done this the last 2 Winters now and everything always checks out good in the Spring. I always start the winter with a full tank of gas and even with letting it idle for about 20 plus minutes, I still have 3/4 of a tank left in March. There has been no impact on performance. Good Luck and Take Care in Iraq! CYA!

I store my 73 with about 5 gal. of race gas (it doesn't go sour as quickly as pump gas) in the tank and with the car on the tires, have not had a noticeable problem with flat spots. If your storing on cement in a non heated building you may want to park it on sheets of cardboard or plywood (barrier between floor and car) to keep the condensation and rusting to a minimum. Our car only gets around 5 or 10 miles a year and I've been storing it like this for 10 years now (since we quit racing). I've thought of putting mine on jack stands, but wouldn't be able to move it quickly if I needed to. (think fire)

By the way, thanks for serving and take care over there!
