Chrysler plans summer shutdown, mandatory vacation for workers
Posted Mar 13th 2008 1:06PM by Damon Lavrinc
Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing, Chrysler

The AP got a hold of an internal email sent to all Chrysler employees informing them in no uncertain terms that they will be taking a vacation from July 7 through July 21. While some kind of plant shutdown is apparently common for most automakers during the summer, this corporate-wide stoppage will also include salaried employees, with the exception of a few teams that will stick around to work on special projects. A Chrysler spokesperson didn't divulge any hard details about the reason for the temporary shutdown, other to say that it should help "boost productivity and efficiency."

Where I work is about the only place I can think of that having nobody around would boost productivity.

That sounds like a good idea. A 2 week vacation will do everyone a lot of good.
I hate slave drivers who don't like to give any breaks to workers and don't care
about their wellbeing. I had jobs like that where the bosses and supervisors put
the profits and customers first and the employees didn't matter for diddly squat.
That's why I don't want to work for other people ever again. Now I make more
money doing less work by working for myself and I can relax anytime I want.

I thought that I said that Dodge will not be in Business much longer???
Yeppppp laying people off for 2 weeks when you have a very hotttt car?????
Dodge as I said in the past are owned by hedge funds in canada.
They don't know anything about cars.
I would like to buy a 2009 Challenger with Hemi and a MANUAL trans.
But Dodge will not be in business much longer....
Look at ford, their JUNK stock was around $7 a share a month ago
and now Fords stocks is arounf the $5 mark.............
Ford will be out of business in the next few years ORRRR
a chinese firm will own them.(yeaaaaa mustangs from China}
With Dodge I do really feel that they will not last for another 3 years.
Our goverment will not bail them out like they did years ago....
Sooooo buy you challengers while you can get them because the company
will not be around much longer......

If it was me ,I would be producing Challengers as much as I can.
I would not give people 2 weeks off without pay.......
It shows you what bad shape the company is in........................JT

Just where, Mr. Sunshine, did you hear that the shutdown is without pay? The posting at the top of this string doesn't say that. Or is that just your standard negativity shining through yet again?

I know that for the salaried employee’s if they have taken their vacation time already then they are out of luck. When I read the article I called my Dad and Uncle (both Dodge employees) They will be ok because they have vacation time saved up, thought they are not thrilled about being told when they have to use it. But my dad's got people that work for him that don't have enough vacation left to cover there mandatory two weeks... whatever part of that is not covered by PTO they don't get paid for.... I would not be happy if I were in the position.

Shutdowns like this are getting more common in manufacturing these days. If you don't take vacation you don't get paid.[:@]
