Default clarification on blue colors

there is the dark blue metallic (Deep Water Blue)

and there is the "Richard Petty Blue) non metallic medium blue
(I saw an RT Challenger classic today in this color)

and B5 blue, which I remember from my 1972 as a medium blue metallic

Am I correct?

i have the deep water blue.... and get as many compliments on the color as the car itself...but seeing pics of the deep water blue does not do it justice... i had to look at the dodge dealers other cars in deep water blue to get an idea before i ordered the challenger

you are NOT correct, B5 blue and petty blue are 2 completely different colors. petty blue is more of a pastel blue and B5 is much darker, B5 is what the first run of 09 classic challengers were getting before the bankruptcy.

this is petty blue
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2811379

this is B5 blue
http://www.stockmopar.com/pictures/1...t-b5-blue.html

you can clearly see the color difference and i cant understand why so many auto magazines spoke of the 43rd SRT built being painted petty blue
when it was painted B5 blue.

wp23n you are exactly right. Look at Richard Pettys vintage race cars and you can see the real Petty blue. That's where it got its name. It had no metalflake to it at all. Chrysler used that color in the early 70's on several models. I'm like you, I don't know why they said that 43rd produced Challenger was Petty Blue. I haven't seen it in person but the pictures don't look like Petty Blue. I'm no expert but B-5 blue was one of the most popular and common color of the musclecar years. Petty bue was rarely seen on anything but Dusters and Challengers, at least around here.
