Default Has anyone bought an extended warranty?

My 09 R/T is coming up on 12 months and I understand that the lowest prices on liftime extended warranties is if you purchase one before the vehicles is 12 months old(?).

I'm thinking about taking the plunge since I plan to keep this car forever.

I've received genuine Chrysler extended warranty quotes from $1600 to $3046.

Anyone have any thoughts at all on extended lifetime warranties?

Thanks!

Jim H.

I purchased the New one for lifetime warranty for $2000 at time I got the car. I keep my cars for a long time and drive em so it made sense. The radio console and GPS cost 1,800 to replace so it seems a no brainer unless you are keeping the car for less than 3 years.

Thanks Joe. I agree that since I'm planning to keep this car forever (my brother still has his 72 Rallye Challenger), the lifetime warranty makes sense. Cheapest I have found so far is $1575 and I think I'm gonna grab it.

That is pretty close to Dealer cost on the lifetime warranty. Mine also has only $100 deductible for the lifetime as well at the 2000 cost.
Check what deductible you want as well.

Yes, for $1575, I'm getting LPM100N - lifetime extended warranty with a $100 deductible. A $50 or no deductible was much more. I'm OK with paying the $100 each time, I'm mainly looking for insurance for the costlier things (like a radio dieing or a failed window motor etc. etc.) whereby I don't get hit with a large bill.

I'm usually NOT an extended warranty guy (this will be my 1st ever on anything), but I really would like to aim for keeping this Challenger for as long as I can drive (or as long as there's gas and even then I might keep it as a garage decoration) and so I'm thinking that over the course of something like 15-20-25 years I will probably have a few things go wrong whereby at least I break even. And if something unexpected major should go, then maybe I'l end up ahead.

And hey, if I end up with a trouble-free car for 15-20-25 years and I end up "behind", then in many ways I'll still end up ahead!

I got the lifetime maximum care plan with a $100 deductible. Total was $1300. I ordered it a few days after I purchased the car, direct from chrysler. They also let me pay it in 36 payments at zero percent interest. Good peace of mind, especially since I plan on keeping this car for good.

Wow that is a sweet price. I will keep it in mind when I get my next New Mopar.

I don't know why I didn't buy an extended warranty at the time I bought my Challenger. I knew I intended to keep it a long time. Anyway, it may have had something to do with my dealership closing about three months later. My car has 11,400 miles on it and is 13 months old. All this talk about warranties made me go visit the nearest two dealerships. The first one , where I am having it serviced, quoted out of a Chrysler book. She told me that 6 years, 72,000 miles was longest I could go. The cost would be $3200 at $100 deductible. A 5 year- 75,000 mile, $100 deductible would be $2,340. If I went to $200 deductible, the 6 year dropped to $2700 and the 5 year dropped to $2025. Both pretty expensive to my notion.
The second dealership quoted out of a book that I am sure was not Chrysler. A 5 year, 60,000 mile, $100 deductible was $1641 and coverage started at contract signing. A 5 year, 100,000 mile, $100 deductible that started at the time of purchase last year was $1548. A lifetime unlimited miles, unlimited years that started at the date the car was purchased was $3995. The last two were called WRAP. They cover everything but belts, hoses, brake pads, spark plugs, tires and all other normal maintenance items. The last one is the only one I'd be interested in but it is still pretty steep.
Just thought I would tell my experience around here.

My trek started when I got the literature in the US mail from Chrysler a month before my car was a year old (I knew all along I was going to be keeping my Challenger "forever" but with al the talk of Chapter 11 at the time, I was afraid to hand them even more $ and I figured if they worked out a deal to stay alive, they'd eventually chase me down for a long-term warranty).

When I called the 1-800 # on the literature, I got the $3k+ #. When I called my dealer he said he could beat that by a mile at only $2k+. When I got on the net to do some research, I quickly found a few places that were well under $2k and the best deal I found was $1575 for a lifetime $100 deductable Chrysler factory warranty, so I went with that.

Sent them a check and a few weeks later I got all the paperwork in the mail including my service contract ID that I am to present to any dealers doing work after my original 3 year warranty runs out.

So would you mind telling me where you got your best deal? The contact information?
