How am I going to afford the Challenger
Plan to sell some of my "toys". Now I will only owe 20,000 dollars on the challenger. I hate to do it, but will enable me to pay off the car faster. I might try to purchase one that is a year old, but will be hard to find one I assume so might have to eat the depreciation costs so will have to keep the car for over 10 years. Oh well.

RE: How am I going to afford the Challenger
Excellent list and good advice. I feel a balance between saving for the future and having fun in the present is very important. I started deferred comp at work when I was 26 years old and in 6+ years I could retire from my job based on the retirement pay, my deferred comp, etc. I will be 51 years old when this occurs and my spouse has almost the same plan and savings amount.

Awesome, good for you.
I feel a balance between saving for the future and having fun in the present is very important. I started deferred comp at work when I was 26 years old and in 6+ years I could retire from my job based on the retirement pay, It is all about the magic of compound building and consistent saving for the future. |
RE: How am I going to afford the Challenger
I am faced with the same question. How do I afford it?
I say this: have patience! I've seen some killer deals on brand new Charger R/T's. That's no given that there will be great deals on Challeneger R/T's some day. But, when supply increases in '09 on onward, I think prices will be better. I gotta come forward with something I struggle with. That is this: I feel guilty when I spend money on myself. I've got a son now. I feel like all my money needs to go toward his life experiences. He deserves it. I'm 31...I made a deal with my wife a few years ago when I got my motorcycle license. I refrain from getting a motorcycle, and some day I get to get a "fun" car. I love cars. Always have. Like I said though, I don't think I'll ever feel right spending that kind of money on something that isn't a necessity. Heck, I drive a '90 Honda Accord now. That thing will probably last me another 15 years. Oh well. That's why I buy a Powerball ticket each week. |
RE: How am I going to afford the Challenger
Checkout Jeremiah 29:11's link to financial planning above. That may help you. If you get the Challenger, take good care of it. Twenty-five or thirty years from now give it to your son.

RE: How am I going to afford the Challenger
Doge favre ever - I am giving mine to my eldest daugher. She is eleven now and a serious gear head. She has been wanting to build a kit car since she was eight. Now that I am getting a Challenger she wants to learn to drive a stick. She practices on the tractor now - somehow I don't think it is the same (I hope).
