How much over invoice have people been paying?

Shopping for an SE; can't afford an R/T w/ my Altima 3.5 lease:(.

I was quoted $24,900 to order an SE w/ leather and no sunroof. It as $700 off MSRP. Just curious.

Still trying to convince the wife to get the R/T and tap some savings.

Anyway, the car looks amazing and I like the lifetime warranty.

I will be replacing my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, since Pontiac in its wisdom wants 30k for a v6 G8 w/ leather[:@].

700 off MSRP sounds like a pretty fair deal. I don't think there is a ton of margin in them.

Almost $3K over the base price ($21,995)? What's it got besides leather? Or are leather seats actually that expensive?

I ordered my R/T for MSRP.
Everywhere else wanted 2k minimum.
my dealer is unique tho, they care more about moving units then gouging .
The more cars they move the move priority they are in standing with Dodge to get more cars faster they said.

To get leather, you have to get the G package first, to the tune of 2700 or so. Base for the G package is 24790. $25645 with the $855 leather. This info is from the dodge.com "build my own" feature.

edited because I originally had the sunroof pricing, not leather.

I think you guys did well. I saw an 08 Challenger at a 5ive star dealship and it was selling for $60K and it had $20K as a separate line item.

I believe it was labeled NDM or something like that????????

For all I know it stood for New Dealer Markup........what a rip off.

Enough said.

ADM... Additional Dealer Markup.

Sounds nicer than Price Gouging...

"Markup?" No, no, no we don't "markup" our cars. [sm=nono.gif]That's just a simple "Market Adjustment."

Would you believe a "Value Enhancement?"

How about a "Customer Appreciation Worth Modification?" [sm=proof.gif]

Here in colorado springs one of the local dealers is charging $65k for the 08 SRTs, the xtra $20k is labeled as "adjusted market rate"

Gotta love 'em!!

Vancouver (WA) Dodge has a Black SE with a "regional market adjustment" of 9 thousand and change, bringing it up to 36ish.

The sales people look rational..... So, I sniffed around to see if I could determine what they are smoking......apparently good stuff, dude...

You know, I was going to rant about that dealership in the Couv, but good for them, hope they enjoy the regional bankruptcy when they can't sell vehicles. I can only hope.

Maybe those were the letters I saw "ADR"........still a rip off not matter what it stands for.

I would never pay over MSRP for a American Car for the simple fact when you go to trade it in you take a big loss cause of resale value.Just my Opinion to each his own

But I am sure you pay top dollar for a LEXUS or Mercedes because of their high quality and great resale value,
I am proud to be American and I would never buy a Kraut Can or a soooped up Toyota.
As for Luxury, real men drive a Caddy or Lincoln or a SRT8 CHALLENGER.

P.S. You cant get one can you? HA HA

Tell me RUBBERBNDMAN, how is driving a car made in CANADA (which, last time I checked, is a foreign country) any different than driving a car made in Germany or Japan?

brucer41 08-27-2008 05:02 AM

RE: How much over invoice have people been paying?

Hmmm always with the details? It is tough to declare always buying American in todays world but in reality it is difficult. I have bought 4 Chevrolets and a Dodge in the last 15 years, all new. A Monte Carlo-built in Canada, A Durango-built in Canada, a Chev truck-built in Canada, another Chev truck-built in Guatamala and now my HHR-built in Canada. All "American" cars and trucks but not a one built here. Now, I do say I buy American but to me, it is the fact of giving business and my money to an American company. My money helps keep Americans employed, keeps American moeny here in our economy (except that paid to international folks for wages, parts, etc.). So, yes I buy American but, really, is it?

whiplash 08-27-2008 05:10 AM

RE: How much over invoice have people been paying?

Ya, the fact is you dont buy "American" anymore. My last Dodge was built out of the country and my last 2 toyotas were built here in the USA in Kentucky I believe. Unless you buy based on where the car itself is built then its a crap shoot. These days a lot of foreign car companys employ americans here in this country.

I know the question was not directed at me but it is a subject I’m most interested in. First we must recognize that the global market place has changed what we call the domestic and foreign auto industry. Simple answer to the question: NAFTA. Agree or not on the merits our nation entered NAFTA with our direct neighbors. Our country and Canada have for a long time enjoyed a great relationship and a better Mexican economy is better suited to keeping it citizens from looking to enter the states illegally. What do I consider an American car? In order of priority

1. Built in America, designed in America, company headquarters in America.
2. Built in NAFTA countries, designed in America, headquarters in America.
3. Built in America, designed in a foreign country, headquarters in America.
4. Built in America, designed in a foreign country, headquarters in foreign country.
5. Built in a foreign country, designed in America, headquarters in America

Anything else I consider a foreign car and really I’m only interested in spending my money on the top two.

Paying over MSRP for any car not likely to be an almost slam dunk rare collectable is silly to me. Although I plan on owning my Challenger 20 to life.

RE: How much over invoice have people been paying?

Couldn't have said it better myself! Although I think 4 and 5 should be reversed. My biggest thing is where the headquarters is because that is where 95% of the money is going.

To the guy with the lexus, if you like driving high priced Toyota good for you. Please go bother the guys on the Lexus forum and you can all talk about how great it is owning rebadged high priced Toyotas.

A friend bought a Hyundai built in our home state of Alabama last spring for $20,000. I guess that was American per number 4 on the list. Do you really think $19,000 of his money went to Korea? I had no idea Alabama autoworkers worked so cheaply!

I know it is made in Canada by normal people that have freedom.
I know the motors are made in Mexico and tranny in Germany.
I know it does say Dodge on it.
I know it is way cool because I have one.
I know when someone comes to the forums all pissed off cause they want one and cant get one.
I know some people are not happy unless they try to piss people off.
I could go on cause I know a lot.

I'm not saying the workers in Alabama are getting paid cheep, I'm sure they are making good money. you’re not buying direct from the factory there for your money is not going direct back to the factor. The greatest percent of the money made is going back to the HQ, not to the factory.

Talk about being selfish. Here I thought I had issues because our Democratic nominee is a White Sox fan and recently dissed us loyal Cubs fans severly and now my voting thoughts are all out of whack. I guess I need to open my eyes and get on board with issue such as these so I can get on the bandwagon! Really hate being out of the loop on such important issues as these. I thought the Cubs going to the World Series was a hot issue, wasnt too sure about how much money Alabama autoworkers stacked on the list of hot items to whine over.
