Locking Gas Cap and Gas Theft

I just needed to ask any of you guys about the locking gas cap. It is obvious to me that with the price of gas now there will be a lot of theft so thats why there is a locking gas cap available now. What I am wondering, is that the only reason lots of you are ordering or installing this locking gas cap or is there some reason like better looks or easier operation? Thanks for any feedback [sm=feedback.gif]

There's another reason to have a locking cap, and that's to keep people from putting stuff in your tank - sugar for example. But as far as theft goes, if they want your gas they will cut your fuel line.

Myth busters proved that doesnt hurt car...Clorox in a metal tank was worst it rusted up bad.We have plastic tanks.
If someone leaves there car where they are worried about something like that they should be more worried about slashed tires
or a nice key down the side.

That is more my reason...but gas runs about $10 a gallon here and without the "inside latch" for the fuel door, a small defense is better than none!

Does the locking cap require you to replace the outside door as well or is it just for the inside cap itself? I would want one but i wouldnt want to lose my snazzy fuel door.

No the fuel door flips open to expose a non-locking gas cap. The locking one is the same size...just has a key.

Suger may not hurt...but Drano Cyrstals will mess your fuel pump up big time! Powdered laundry detergent can do some nasty stuff too!

The locking cap is inside (under the racing gas cap). I ordered one because that bright chrome cap on the rear fender draws attention.

A few years back, in the Denver area, hoodlums were stuffing rags in the filler and lighting them.
