My mom handed down to me my first car. A 87 Corolla LE with a 3 speed auto and 74 horsepower.

I consider myself spoiled just because of that. A $42,000 sports car? That's taking it to a whole new level. For the love of God. [&:]

my first car......$150 1977 Volare....with corinthian leather and power windows!!!!!
rolls eyes at dad buying son $42,000 car........good grief....thats all I got to say.....
My first car was one of the $500.00 cars you hear about.....a 66 Charger that needed body and interior work (engine was strong).....felt soooooooo good when I finished it and people would tell he how great it looked.....of course I traded it in on a 69 Charger RT/SE with a 440 not more than 6 months after I finished it....
It is kind of hard to accept paying over $40,000.00 for a car when I think back at what I paid back in the day for cars.........but different time, and my pay was a lot different as well!!!!!

Shucks $500!!! In my time that much money for a first car would have bought darn near a new one. My first car in 1971 cost me $50. It was a 1967 VW Beetle. It had rubber floor mat, cardboard headliner and a screw holding up the drivers window. Heater didnt work as the heat tubes were gone, and other assundry issues but that little car ran and ran and ran. I put about $200 worth of body/engine work in it and made it last for about 3 years. I in turn sold it for $350! I thought I made a killing on that car. I personally dont think what your first car was, as long as you respected the road and other drivers...and of course enjoyed driving!

When this car was last produced (1974) I only made $500 a month, and was at the tender age of 18. Employer, US Army 3rd Armor Division Europe.

In 74, I was making (take-home) $98.73 for a 48-hour week. Employer, R&S Vickers Des Moines Oil Co. And of that, I kept $20/week for expenses and banked the rest for college tuition payments. I still had enough left over after I paid the spring tuition that year to buy my 70 Challenger for an even $1,600. Of course, that left (and then kept) me broke. ;)
