I remember reading that at the unveiling of the Camaro, when Bob Lutz was asked about power, he said the usual stuff and added that Chevy will have hi-performance models, at least 1 of which(and I believe these were close to his words), "will blow away the competition when it comes to Horsepower." Obviously referring to Mustang and Challenger. Anybody remember this?

if they raised the Z06's hp to match the vipers 600; there is a gap for a hi hp camaro. If chrysler can have two SRT8 sedans (300 and charger) Let GM have their 500+hp coupes. Besides the base Vette for 08 should (according to the lastest MT) have a 6.2L 430 hp V8 engine Standard. Even if they give this engine to the Camaro as a Hi performance model they would be on par for HP with the challenger (unless the fabled 6.4 comes out), and if they make it lighter as well they could the mustang a run for its money. IMO we need HP more than GM does.

True but one thing that GM needs to remember is that offering more power in the Camaro at the top-level at a similar price as the Corvette could potentially hurt the sales of the base level Corvette and possibly the Z06.

Agreed, Unless they do pricing similar to the way porsche does the 911 and the Carerra Lines( more marketing strategy than perfromance difference). It is one thing for GM and Ford to make a faster car; a ligher, better handling car; or even a faster car. But they can do all three the challenger will have a hard time selling to non Mopar fans if it only has looks on its side.

I wouldn't say that per sey. Use the Mustang as the example. During the last year of the F-body Firebird and Camaro, the F-cars were arguably faster than the Mustang and for a lower price; however, the Mustang was out selling them two to one. This was the way it was throughout the mid to late 90s, but still the Mustang was more popular. Appearance plays a big part in this class. As long as the Challenger has some package with guts, it will sell to all audiences.

There is no comparison, the Camaro does not look retro at all! On top of that, it is rather ugly!

In Transformers, when the 70(yr?) Camaro transformed to the concept...what a major dissapointment! The old one looked a whole lot better.
The new one will probably do ok in sales, but there's nothing classic about it. Just another car in the Mustang class...a car that's complelety lost its soulful appeal.
Unlike this Challenger, which is right on!

I kinda like the new Camaro look. I am not sure younger people want their cars all looking like 1970s cars. Thats like someone in the 1970s wanting a car that looked like something from the 1940s...

But we will wait and see how GM messes it up. My bet is the production camaro won't look like the prototype.

I saw Transformers twice but really for Megan Fox not the Camaro :)
