No start w/keyless go

Drove Challenger to a gas station this morning, shut off the engine, filled, got back in and tried to start as usual using keyless go. Engine started and then immediately shut off. I noticed a message that there was no key fab detected. I pulled the fab out of my pocket and held it near the center of dash then tried to start but this time after pressing the start button it turned over for ~10-15 seconds then turned off.(It timed out on its own) Then I attempted the clear flood instructions on page 218 of the owners manual, but still no start. At this point I have a bunch of on lookers asking about the car and some calling it a piece of crap for not starting. After sitting with the ignition off for 5 minutes, I was able to start as if nothing ever happened. Anyone have a similar experience?

I have heard that you must rotate the use of your two key fobs. Otherwise, they will eventually not work.

sam here from jersey
had the same problem
dealer had to order 1900.00 worth of parts from chrsyler(as per the chry tech line)(new fobs, recievers etc etc)
wiated 3 weeks, everything came in. took the dealer 3 hours to install all the "new parts"
tried to start-"no key detected" code flashed again.
serv guy called chrsler again and they told him all he has to do is re-set the passive something or another with his computer
he did that and the car started right up and is still working well(knock on wood).

good luck to youthere is supposed to be a tsb out on your problem now

Damn new age electronics. Back in the day if your car wouldn't start it was because it WAS a piece of crap. Ill stick with putting the key in a hole.

God im only 22 and I'm already a geezer.

Don't blame the electronics, blame chrysler and it's vendor. Have had none of these problems with my axis power cars i.e. German and Japanese. I hope all the bugs get worked out on these cars because I am getting concerned with all the issues.

I am not familar with the keyless start technology. Is that an option, can you just use a key? This sounds like the beginning of real problem, a show stopper that may result in a number of very unhappy customers.

RE: No start w/keyless go

It is a standard feature in the SRTs. You can either install the button, or just use the keyfob as a key.

I really feel for the OP, I don't know just how upset I would be if my new $40k plus car would not start!

i have friends who own other cars with keyless start (toyota camry) and they have always worked fine... so it is hard to blame it on "new technology"... but i really do believe that the challenger will be a very reliable car once the bugs are worked out because its brothers the 300C and Charger are rated above average for being reliable. Look at mercedes and porsche reliability records which suck.

RE: No start w/keyless go

Yeah I have noticed that. Many folks think that Mercedes are such great cars but Consumer Reports shows many problems with them. A woman in my office had a 3series Mercedes and got rid of it after two years. Not only did she have problems with it but it was very expensive to have any maintance done. Drives a Accura now and is very happy. I had thought that since the Challenger is such a big deal to Dodge that they would have had a better handle on issues like these.

Its pretty common for first-year models to have a few bugs. Hopefully these will be resolved soon.

No such thing as a 3 series mercedes. I think you meant C-class. The 3 series is BMW and they are a very good car. My buddy has over 200,000 miles on his and we only have about 30,000 but no problems yet. You are correct on MB cars, usually have a lot of problems with electronics, etc.

RE: No start w/keyless go

You sir are correct, c-class. However I know five people who have had BMW's and all of them had problems and they were expensive problems. One guy was a very capable mechanic and he could not keep his 7 series running. Really depressed him because he was so excited to get that car. Then a friend and his wife and her dad all had 3 series BMW's and they stayed in the shop. I liked the cars alot, great to drive. One of the guys had a 318I and it was pretty reliable but the problem he had was this, at the time many years ago he needed wipers and could not find any available from Auto Zone or wherever, now that might be different now.

Are you kidding, the 3 series is in the Consumer Reports top ten most unreliable!

The current BMW models may or may not be crap, but my 93 BMW 318 is an awesome little car. It is REALLY fun to drive for a 4-banger. If I wasnt getting the Chally, Id probably pay to have it converted to US specs and bring it home with me.

Edit: Figured I should throw a picture in. (Click Here)

That is exactly what many of us talked about why we would not buy a 1st year Challenger.

This is for Toyota and I do not know if the Challenger works the same way-as for the keyless entry and start, I have seen people be able to get into cars as long as they have the keyfob on their person and within about 5 feet from the car........which I think most peoples arms are shorter than that. :D
What that means is that if you are stand close to your car somebody else can open it besides you but you have to be close to the car and I think it only works on the drivers side.

As long as you have it on you, all you have to do is push the start button. The question is asked what if your keyfob battery is dead, I was told that all you have to do is hold the keyfob in front of the start button and it reads the data and you can then start the car.

RE: No start w/keyless go

Yes a lot of the 7 series have problems and they are not recommended by consumer reports. Some of the older 3 series had problems with electrical and would blow fuses quite often. I love the lexus quality but the ride and handling of the 3 is much superior. However I am really looking forward to the Chally and after they work the bugs out, could really be a dependable fun car to drive, at least I am hoping.
