SE has Competition

The September 1, 2008 issue of Autoweek states that the Challenger SE, 250 hp/250 lb/ft will go from 0-60 mph in 7.8 sec. and get 21 mpg. The Camaro V6, 300 hp, 273 lb/ft, goes from 0-60 mph in only 6.1 sec. (Chevy is working to being this down to 5.9 sec.- the R/T does it in 5.5 sec.) and also gets 21 mpg.

Both cars cost $22K. Dodge has its work cut out for it to keep pace with Chevy.

Fact is that many of us here are dyed in the wool Mopar enthusiasts. Many who may have been considering the Challenger may fall to the wayside and opt for the Cramaro. Ugly as it is to many of us I am sure there are many who will like the trendy stylishness of it for reasons I would never understand. With better numbers it will surely draw some. For me though... has no real draw...

the camaro beats all our cars in performance stock. But out cars IMO look better. And besides the v6 is due for an update in 2010 so expect the new phoenix engine. The v6 engine now is slow and gets poor gas mialage but that will change soon.

I'm a long time Camaro bigot, and I converted to the Challenger on the basis of looks, and the fact it is here now is a huge factor. My eye just likes the way the Dodge designers did a better job of capturing the essence of the cars that that the inspiration for the new ones. But Chevy got to to start with a cleaner sheet of paper, and that's why they are later to market. The LS engine series produce good power and are light weight, durable nad fuel efficient too. You won't be seeing a guzzler tax on the Camaro's. The new Camaro is well done, it just wasn't love at first sight for me. Maybe I'll like it better when I see one in person.

My 05 Magnum SXT gets 25mpg highway with the 3.5ho.
That doesnt seem bad for as big and roomy it is.
If I drove normal I would get 27-30mpg.

What is the 21 mpg figure supposed to represent? From what I've seen, the SE is rated at 18 in the city and 25 highway. Is 21 supposed to be a combined figure? And frankly I don't care what mileage the Camaro gets or its 0-60 time. I'm buying the Challenger for its looks, period.
