seeking your opinion on buying 08 SRT 8

My local dealer, that I've been working with has 2 08 SRT 8's in orange. Is willing to sell to me at window sticker price 41,000+. No mark up. Says I can get $15,000 for my 06 Charger (base model). I have not investigated insurance, calculated sales tax, or plate registration or transfer from the Charger, as additional cost considerations. Money is not a particular issue, although it is still 25,000 bucks plus incidentals.

I really like my Charger, don't really "need" a car. And I am wondering if I'll have fun with an 08 SRT, or if I should wait out an 09 RT in orange, or just wait, altogether. I can't see driving bad a_ _ car in winter, have tried to keep T bird in great shape, but it could become everyday car, or bring the 1999 Ranger out of retirement and keep cool cars for special.

I'm torn on what to do. Part of me wants to have an 08 SRT 8, but I wonder if I'd drive it or just "have it".

so what do you guys think?

Steve

Doc, for as long as you have been on the forum and for the tons of material you have amassed, I would think that this would be a no brainer for you at this point. You enjoyed your travels in your Bird this summer, I would think that the time has come for you to own something beyond special, but THE CAR. The Charger is cool, but this is just something beyond that, and the deal from the dealer seems right on. Good luck!

Even if you waited for the 09 R/T you pay nearly the same. I say get the 08 SRT. I guarantee you will find reasons to drive it!

Especially if you can get an 08 at sticker price, I'd say go for it.

For that price and the fact that you already have your 'winter beater' (depending on where you live),
and it being one of the 6400 it will hold it's value a little better than an '09. (if you don't beat the crap out of it,
Get It.!

Does desire to row your own gears matter? You are thinking buy SRT or R/T? Wait till spring then you can test drive both. Don’t rush get the car you want at a better price.

If you can afford SRT (and afford includes the higher insurance), then I would say get it.

I run family business and ran it all through here.Insurance only goes up if I get ticket or accident. My CPA told me to buy SUV but this is much better. In 3 or 4 years when depreciated company sells me car for cheap.
So far I did RV and Magnum in this manner...Rich get richer...poor get pissed....

Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably buy the car.

My insurance only goes up $200 per year over what I'm paying for base model Charger. I can transfer the lisence plates and save some cost in first year. Sales tax in Michigan will be 2500 bucks. Probably will finance part of it for cash flow convenience, with option to pre pay or pay down balance.

Keep the replies coming....I like the ones about finding a reason ot driveit!!

Sad but true... the insurance is cheaper for the SRT8 Challenger than the 04 Neon... go figure.

Really, Bud, if you arent stuck on having a manual, theres really no reason to NOT get the 08 at sticker.
Seems like a no brainer to me too.

I made the commitment today for the Hemi Orange, fully loaded, 2008 SRT 8.

$44,400 out the door, inc taxes and plate transfer. Offering me 100 % financing 0 down, can pay ahead as I want.

Maybe Friday afternoon or Tuesday after Labor Day.

Still, I am torn. I am a slow poke driver, like cars, can't see where I'll have opportunity to "stand on it" but the time is now and the price is right. I'm sure the fun will come.

That's funny, I received a call from the dealer in Garden City, Mi. this morning. They were one of the dealers I had contacted about one at MSRP. They said that they had one come available. I told them that I had already committed to an 09 R/T. Could this be the same car?

Great price Steve, and if it was zero down i'm sure you got a great interest rate as well.
It is a fast car, and if you drive it mild.... Its still a beautiful FAST car. Congrats!

All the collecting you have done on this car, it only stands to reason it would lead to ownership

I wish I was in your situation 2 weeks ago.

I paid 9k over sticker and got 10k for my 07 Fusion !! (45k miles tho)

Assuming you actually intended to type "to drive it," if you have to get from Point A to Point B, you might as well impress passers-by in the process. :D

RE: seeking your opinion on buying 08 SRT 8

sorry for the typo

update on my car: Dealer has two oreange..one has 38 miles, one has 4 miles...Salesman tagged teh 4 miler for me.

I have made notes about potential problems for my trip there on Tuesday
1. seat bolt
2. rear fascia license holder area wind movement
3. wiring near parknig brake
4. trunk drain holes
5. esp starting issue

What's up in accessories...How does the pistol grip shifter look and feel? Is there a conversion for a classic Pistol grip?

Steve
