Default SRT Engineers' Responses

Here are some of the SRT engineers' responses from tonight's SRT Cherokee Chat Session that apply to the Challengers:

Response to #7 cylinder misfire on 6.1s:

We are aware of the problem. We didn't find this one in pre-launch development, and it is unique to the manual transmission 09 cars. The bad news is, we're working on it, and a fixed flash is not yet available. The good news is, this is a sensor calibration issue, NOT a problem with your coils/plugs/valvetrain/etc. Meanwhile, burn rubber. You won't be doing damage to your engine in the meanwhile. We're working on a fix as fast as we can.

It's not necessary to warm your car before you drive it, but if it's that cold where you live, you should move. Would always suggest warming up the car to make sure oil is everywhere and internal parts are up to temp. That said Mobil is excellent at cold temps and probably doesn't require as much warm up as convential

F1 Supercar tires are bricks below 40 degrees. This is one of the drawbacks of good track tires. As some point wheel hop is unavoidable. Traction and road surface are big factors. We worked very hard to minimize wheel hop in the Challenger and would argue it is better than it's competitors

In response to the difference between the 6.1 and 5.7 exhausts with auto trans:

Yes, the SRT has a very different exhaust tune. Both the suitcase and the rear resonators are of a straight thru design vs. a baffled design. It is very low backpressure.

If you want quiet brakes, feel free to install ****ty aftermarket pads at your own risk of significantly reduced brake performance, especially when you need them most. Unfortunately it is virtually impossible to have track capable brakes on a 4850 lb that are quiet. Note that if you use them like they were designed to be used (i.e. HARD), they tend to not score up the rotors and not be as noisy. Track capable brakes are one of the 5 pillars of SR

SRT8 was engineered with a focus on the five pillars of every SRT: bold exterior design that resonates with the brand image, a race-inspired interior, world-class ride and handling across a dynamic range, a standout powertrain and benchmark braking.

Let's put 3+years of thermostat questions to rest. The emissions system was validated with the stock thermostat. We have not tested cooler thermostats, nor car we officially endorse them. We know it works for drag racers to install cooler thermostats, but that's all we have for 'ya.

The stock SRT airbox is excellent. The MOPAR filter is re-usable, but probably won't gain much

Normal driving burnish for BREMBO brakes: Drive 60 miles with light brake snubs for 2-3 seconds (0.4 g decel) at a time every 3/4 mile.

Race driving burnish:- 160 - 50 kph stops ever 30 seconds on the track until the brake material begins to fade. - Allow to cool to 110F. Don't think it will do much of a difference in noise to a vehicle that was burnished correctly to begin with.Brake pad wear totally depends on driving style/cycle. Good idea to check them at oil changes.

We have to cal. to 91 octane cause that's the best you can get in many states.

Will the SRT8 transmissions shift at higher rpm at full throttle in manual mode (automatic trans) than in drive?

No, they will both shift at the same point

170-180 degrees for oil temp before you hammer it. We typically don't want to go over 325 F with Mobil 1.
