Transmission Question

I need to know what transmission is in the R/T Automatic.

Does anyone know what the name, or number, or part number is?

RE: Transmission Question

Ok, well my problem is that I can not find any specs on this transmission. I want to be able to look it up and see how it's supposed to behave. I am getting contadicting information about how the transmission is supposed to shift, more specifically if it is supposed to downshift during braking/deceleration.

RE: Transmission Question

yes it will if in MAN it will drop to 1st when stopped and stay there until redline then it will shift to 2nd if you are going down a hill the brakes will come on if ESP is on and when in D it will downshift as is slows down. That is how my car acts and I have over 7,000 mi on her now

I forgot to mention that I can feel mine downshift when I let off of it but it is barely perceptible. Seems within reason to me.

RE: Transmission Question

You have a computer that learns your shift patterns.

I have been in Transmissions for the past 25 years, and promise you are only feeling the programming. The transmission is called the W5A580 when in a Chrysler product, but it is from the 722 series and has been used by Mercedes for 38 years. You will find more information looking up the 722.6 then looking for the W5A580.

I love the way mine down shifts. We see enough brake dust, and the decel helps slow the car.
