Dodge Challenger Forums - My 1973 Dodge Challenger

Hi everyone,

A little about my self. My favorite car of all time is the Ford GT originally know as the GT40. I fell in love with it about 15 years ago when I saw it in a book. After looking into building a kit car I discovered that it would still be too expensive. Then I discovered that Ford was going to build it. I hoped that it would not be expensive. Ha! Ha! Boy was I wrong. So here I am still looking
and thinking about building a car. Unfortunately, it takes the average gearhead about 4 years to build a car. Okay so maybe I could build a partial car. But I am a litttle particular about cars
so picking a car that is in good shape would be difficult. I have looked at cars that are great in handling but have good acceleration. How about a Lotus Elise, Exige, (what happened to the M240)
Porshce Cayman, Ultima, or Noble M400. Most of these are too expensive or not practical. Well how about the new Mustang. That is certainly a possibiltiy and affordable. Then I saw the new Dodge Challenger. Boy did that bring back memories.

The car in the picture was my 1973 Dodge Challenger...the first car I ever owned. I bought it used from my Dad's boss. This car was very dirty from sitting under a pine tree for about a year.
I helped with the body work. Had it painted the 1972 color since the 1973 color was a weaker green. This 318 cubic inch motor was originally a single exhaust. I replaced the rear lower panel
with a dual exhaust panel. This allowed for adding a chrome dual rectagulars exhausts on both sides like the new concept car except they came thru the rear panel and not below it. Then I took it to a muffler shop and dualed it out and had glass packs called "orange peelers" (I think). Then I added turbine wheels with 60's width tires. The picture is not the clearest but I always had the car clean.
I owned the car from 1976 till 1980. I would not consider it the best built car (I was not a fan of torsion bars) but I liked the mean body style.

I will certainly keep my eye on the new concept car as it looks fantastic. Yes, if I decide to buy it, it will be the fastest and meanest verion available. Supercharger anyone?
