A 600 HP Viper in 2008

Could this engine make its way to Challenger?

One can dream, but doubt they would use this engine in a Challenger.

Which rims Mike? I like the ones on the top pic(except the chrome. I am not a fan of chrome), but definately not the ones in the bottom pic.

Same... the bottom ones are tacky. The top pic of the rims are good and I whole-heartedly agree about the chrome.

Actually, this has been talked about for several months and hence the reason I believe this would give justification for Dodge to make a 500HP Challenger car since it's big bigger has moved in also in HP.

"Extra underhood cooling is necessary to bleed off heat from the aluminum block V10, which receives a one mm larger bore to raise displacement from 8.3- to 8.4-liters. New cylinder heads, larger valves and variable exhaust valve timing—a Viper first—are part of an engine revision package that produces a staggering 600 hp, 90-hp more than the previous model. Torque rises by 25 lb-ft, to 560. The factory claims sub-four second 0-to-60-mph capability, and says the snake will run from 0-100-0-mph in the 12-second range."

For me one of the most important specs is the 0-100-0 mph when I read about overall performance. Several of the kit cars I posted previously can do 0-100-0 MPH in
10 seconds. These cars are so fast that you can't lean forward to pick up a coin off of the dash because of the G's being pulled. Some of the exotics are now starting to spec.
0-200-0 MPH in their literature but that is whole another league.

has anyone seen other information on this?

I was able to get a look at this viper about a year ago...i cannot say where is i wasnt supposed to be there, but the one that i saw with the 8.4L had a larger intake manifold as well...at least it looked larger. i took some pictures of a current viper with that masked hood, and judging by the damage it was a mule...i saw that one about 7 months ago, i think...

however, autoweek is the only place that ive heard any info...chrysler doesnt have anything..

There is no chance they will find its way into the Challenger. This would threaten the Viper's sales. I can't see why they would do that when they could offer a HEMI that is smaller and similarily powered.

Patrick: yes Road & Track had an article about this as did Hot Rod magazine. Here is the info about the engine from R&T.

ORIGINAL: Road & Track
Article summary: "The Dodge Viper returns from vacation with more bite beneath its new hood, pushing the 600-bhp level thanks to major modifications of its OHV V-10."

"The boost in output comes from slightly more displacement, higher compression, variable valve timing and freer-breathing intake and exhaust.

Capacity is up marginally from 8.3 to 8.4 liters due to a slightly larger bore. Engineers worked most of their magic with a new cam-within-a-cam design giving variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust while the valves themselves are larger in diameter with machined hollow sterns that allow for higher-speed operation. The compression ratio has been boosted from 9.6:1 to 10.2:1. Much attention was paid to the dual throttle body intake plenum and exhaust headers to improve flow, and the crossover connecting the side pipes has been eliminated to further reduce backpressure."

Is that the one that is supposed to produce around 675hp or is this the regular '08?
