Default brain teaser

Which one of the items A through E belongs in the empty space in the matrix?
I did 10 sample IQ test questions from a magazine article and this one was by far the hardest. (I answered it correctly)

The answer is D.
The 2nd row subtracts a dot from the 1st row.
The 3rd row subtracts a line from the 2nd row.

i went top to bottom like it was columns.

Speaking of stuff affecting your brain, your nutrition affects your brain.
Things that improve your brain are:

fish oil (omega 3 fatty acids)
blueberries and other berries (flavonoids & anti-oxidants)
dark green leafy vegetables
orange juice (folic acid)
B vitamins
aerobic exercise

So almost anything that's healthy for you will also improve your memory and thinking ability.
For the past few years, I've been taking fish oil pills and a lot of other supplements and I've been eating
a lot of salads and fruit smoothies. It definitely makes me feel smarter. My brain does work better
and my memory is better. These foods and supplements also make me feel a lot better physically.
Also healthy eating improves your mood and keeps you from being depressed.
Today so far I ate a salad, a bowl of berries, and a cup of yogurt.

But junk food makes me feel bad physically & mentally. The more junk food I eat, the worse I feel.
I think the worst kind of junk food is anything made with flour, because it has gluten.
MSG (monosodium glutamate) seems to make me feel bad also.
Junk food degrades my mood and makes me feel somewhat depressed.
When I used to eat nothing but junk food, I had severe major depression.
My brain wasn't getting the nutrients it needed to function well and feel good.
