Default Most stolen cars for 2008

Dodge made the list with three models.....(and the only top ten import came in at number ten, who said Americans don't want American iron....well the bad guys do anyway....)
The question is...when/if the new Challenger will make the list for 2009....

An 05-07 Dodge Durango? [sm=WTFsgign.gif]

I mean they're OK trucks... but I can't imagine someone wanting one so bad they'd be willing to actually steal one.

Well, to start with, Dodge would have to speed up production for enough Challengers to be out on the street to be stolen. With the 08s, for example, all 6400 could be stolen and the car wouldn't make the list. I think that to make the list, the Challenger would have to be rated on percentage stolen.

A little more information on how they come up with the numbers:

To generate a list of the most-stolen cars, the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety annually reviews insurance-claim reports to determine
theft-frequency rates based on the number of claims filed for every 1,000
vehicles insured each year. The 2008 report only includes 2005, 2006 and
2007 model-year cars, light trucks and SUVs, with the exception of the
Cadillac Escalades (only the 2007 model is included because it was
redesigned for that model year) and the Dodge Charger (only the 2006
and 2007 models are included since it was not available in the 2005 model year).
Based on the claims filed, the IIHS also calculates the average loss paymentthe
amount paid to the consumer by the insurance companymade for each claim filed.

Ask yourself: If Chrysler builds so many cars that nobody wants, why are
three of its models in the top 10 most stolen list?
Anybody else notice an Asian marque or two that isn't in the list?

Not that I'm thinking of why they haven't been stolen, I have for many years just believed that the Japanese, while being effecient at making quality vehicles, build bland and boring vehicles. Maybe marque vehicles like Infinity and Lexus do a little something exciting, their costs are prohibitive to the common person. Acura's to me are so close to being a rebadged Honda, who in my opion build the most blase ho hum cars around. So I'm with ya on this Joe, no Asian vehicles because no desire for them.

It is quite confusing on why the Durango is so high on the list. If I wanted an SUV from Chrysler bad enough to steal it, I'd go for a Grand Cherokee as they are faster, for fuel efficient, nicer inside and out, and it's a Jeep, do I have to explain any further? The only theory I have is for parts. On top of this, they just discontinued this model due to lack of popularity.

The Magnum also is surprising as they were discounted. Why are vehicles that don't sell, popular to steal?
