Opinions on a 73' Cuda

I came across a guy today advertising his 1973 340 Cuda. It is not Sublime Green but close. He said the paint color is called Cherry something.... Cannot recall the other color I think it started with a L. Anyway... He said the engine is a 1971. Runs strong he says and no leaks. It looks mint, the paint is very nice. He is not the original owner but he thinks it was a frame on restoration. I saw no rust, the interior was immaculate. It's an automatic. He put a 1970 rear wing on it, the wing is black.
It has the black stripe coming from the quarter panels with the 340 on it. The engine compartment looks clean and painted. He is asking 32K for it but that price is not firm. I'd like some input as to what I may be getting into if I buy it. Numbers do not match, but I don't plan on getting it to showcase it for full authenticity. Local cruises and weekend driving and I do want it to appreciate.

Opinions please?

There are just to many unanswered questions before I could give a go or no go on this one. Can you post any pics?

I didn't take any pics, but the car looks exceptional. I guess in a nut shell, what would be a fair price for that car? Ballpark figures. To me it looks worth more than what he's asking but I don't know the going price range of these.

That seems high to me, you can get a matching number car for that or less. The market for non matching number cars and clones is falling. Is the car an H code 340 4-speed originally?

Yes he says it is a 340, but the motor is from a 1971 I am told. H-code? I don't know.... I noticed it was auto. I would assume 3 speed auto but not sure. The car really looks hot and well kept. Someone restored it. Before I go talk to him, drive it and get into every feature if I get that far in my decision making, I wanted to do some homework on it and make an offer as low as I can without sounding to ridiculous in my offer. I realize I didn't give much information on it but I am just looking for ball park figures.

Take a look at E-Bay Motors and Auto-Trader .com. Compare it to other cars in the same shape and with the same engine combinations. That will give you some idea as to the value of the car. I would not get too caught up in the # matching unless the car is an investment. But you appear to want the car for personal enjoyment and then you have to look at what its price is to you and your enjoyment of the experience. Cars should be driven and enjoyed, but some people spend so much money to restore them, they become paranoid to drive them on the street. Out goes the fun factor. Good luck on your decision and be safe.

At the other extreme end of the scale is a fully restored 1971' 340 Cuda (sublime) that sold on Barrett-Jackson for $165,000. If the car is in excellent shape, for a 'Cuda not in original condition, $32,000 does not sound unreasonable.

Well based on what I came across on Ebay.... >>>>>200125121941

I think I will pass... That car is so much more for less... I'd drive to NY to get this if I was prepared.

I agree you can still buy nice 72-74 cudas for 20- 25k range. I will keep my eyes open for a good deal.

at the nationals, youd pay way more than 32k for a car in great shape, with a healthy 340.
