R/T Ram 1500
Just got back from the local dealership and he had some new Ram literature. It showed an R/T package for the 1500. It didn't say much about the equipment that you get with it. The hood is very Challenger-like. The Package put the truck a little over $32,000. How well do you think this will sell in this economy? That's what the dealer asked me. I told him that it might sell as well as the Rumble bee but times have changed. What do you guys think?

RE: R/T Ram 1500
What’s the biggest difference between the Dodge Challenger and the Dodge Ram? More than 200,000 units of production volume...It’s not hyperbole to say the professional livelihood of almost every Chrysler employee could hang on how well the new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 is received by truck buyers. The Germans knew not to mess with the success of Chrysler’s big Dodge pickups when they owned the company....The biggest risk? The truck team’s decision to emphasize everyday usability over top-end capability. In short, there will be no chest-pounding ads that the Ram can pull the Titanic from the bottom of the Atlantic.
“Competing for the most towing is a battle of diminishing returns,” said Ralph Gilles, Chrysler’s new design chief and the man responsible for leading the Ram’s redesign. “We wanted to make a truck our buyers can live with. One that’s well-rounded.”
“We’ve taken leaf springs as far as they can go [for ride comfort and handling],” said Scott Kunselman, Chrysler’s vice president of truck product development, and Gilles’ engineering counterpart. “Coil springs are the next step. We’ve made them without sacrificing any of the towing or payload [ratings] that we had on the previous Ram. Plus, we save 40 pounds in weight.”
we're still as enthusiastic about the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 as we were when it was first reveled at the Detroit auto show. Most half-ton truck buyers don't need three-quarter-ton towing and hauling capability in their pickups, and we think most people will find the improved ride comfort a more-than-fair tradeoff for trailering and payload ratings that equal what the Ram could do in 2008.

I think the Ram rt will be overlooked by most consumers. I think it is a great looking truck but not good enough to buy one in this economy. Having said that, I am not overly impressed by the new Ram. I own a 2006 and was worried that I would have to go right out and buy the 09 when it became available. I have not had that urge. As an employee I hope they sell very well. As a consumer buying a pickup as a daily driver is not fitting the budget these days. I will say that my truck has been good for me. If someone needs a truck for work or towing, the Ram has great power and the 09 appears to have an improved interior.

Wow, that interior really helps put it up on par with the high end Fords and Lincolns. Too bad the primary demographic (people that dont really NEED trucks) are probably going to pass due to todays fuel prices and economy. I owned an 02 with the V6 and it was a great truck, but it was just BORING. I used it primarily to haul my R/C Helicopters to the flying field. I sold it before coming to Germany because I was afraid it would be too big for the roads here.
But with the trunk capacity in the Challenger, I shouldnt have a problem stuffing my small and medium sized choppers in there. The big one will have to go in the backseat though. And Ill miss being able to work on them using my tailgate as a workbench. Hopefully when I get back to the States, I can find a cheap truck to haul stuff in (and tow the Challenger with whenever I move.) But I digress...
