Rallye wheels
 

I've noted previously that I'd rather see the old Rallye wheels on the Challenger, so I e-mailed a supplier about them. Here's the exchange:

Hello. Do you know yet if the bolt pattern on your old-school Mopar Rallye wheels will fit the new Dodge Challenger? I plan on getting an '09 model later this year and want to restore it as much as possible to 1970 Challenger style. That, of course, would include proper Rallye wheels. Thanks!

Hi, They actually use a metric pattern on the new Magnums and Challengers and they are a few millimeters different. They actually bolt up but aren’t centered on the lugs. I hope this helps. Thanks very much,

Sounds like that's what he's saying. I think that once the Challenger is out for a year or so aftermarket people will make them (or at least I hope so as I, like you, don't like those five blade wheels on a Challenger). Way too much lavish (or in current terms, "bling").[:'(]

Sounds as if the bolt circle is different-smaller or larger, thus they won't be centered on the lugs.

That's correct. The studs are smaller than the lug opening on the wheels, but the studs will still all go inside the existing pattern.
Rather than chancing snapping off the studs, you would need something called "eccentric lugs" (aka - eccentric roto-lugs) to accomodate the existing wheels - until the correct lug size and spacing are incorporated into the wheel manufacture.
Eccentric lugs are "off center sleeves" that turn onto the wheel studs. they line up in a "radius" from the center of the hub and fill the space in the wheels' oversized lug openings. I'm not sure if anyone makes them anymore. A company called Appliance Wheels used to, but I'm not sure they still exist / are in business. I used them on several cars back in the 70's and 80's when I couldn't get the wheels I wanted for my car in the exact / correct bolt pattern. They worked well.

Probably can't find 'em in the correct bolt pattern or rim size, but I'd love to see a set of chrome Cragar SS rims on the Challenger. Wonder is Cragar makes them in 18" X 7"/7.5"?

THis wheel thing is confusing for me. I am going to have to really think about what I want to get.

Do I stay with newer style wheels or do I go retro. My old CHallenger had turbine style wheels, but I have not seen that style (with many fins) from any manufacturer these days. One reason is that they take a while to wash because of the many fins.

Go retro I say. Once I have money for rims, I am going retro for my Mustang. But then again, the Bullets are I guess, But I want these.
