In the April 2009 issue of Motor Trend, performance numbers were published on the 2010 Mustang GT and Camaro Z28. While the Z28 model is on "hold," we have serious pny car competition. Here are the numbers:

Mustang GT

13.5 sec @104.2 mph (manual)- SRT performance for the price of an R/T

Z-28 Camaro

The GT will only be r/t performance. even though they said the gt will go to 0-60 in 4.9-5.2 seconds and claimed a 1/4 at 13.5-13.7. Chally r/t's they stated are 0-60 in 5.1 with 1/4 at 13.6. Pretty even with eachother depending on the weight/skill of the driver. MotorTrend is usually nice however with their specs, road and track or car and driver tend to be understated for some reason. As for the z/28, well that thing will just be plain fast. But I would imagine that it will be around 60-75k and running with other comparables (z06, m3 etc) The camaro v6 will pack around 300 hp though : /, 0-60 in 6 seconds. The regular v8 camaro will still boost a whopping 422 hp, most likely edging out the srt8 b/c of the weight difference. Buuut, call me biased, I think we all know that the challengers are the ticket : )

Cuda340 from what I've seen I doubt that the GT will be comparable to the SRT-8 being that it receive a very mild upgrade to cover for a weight increase. The Z28 (if it is produced) will likely be more expensive than the SRT-8. The Camaro will probably be the performance king as it generally was (or more accurately the Firebird was as it would have the Firehawk models) during that last couple generations. On the other hand, depending on how long they make the Challenger and IF they decide to update the powertrains, the Challenger might receive an updated V8 that will be able to compare nicely to the Camaro as well as a better base level V6.

From magazine reports, the GT is basically getting the same engine tweaks that the 08 or so Bullitt got. So a nice little boost, but not a re-invention of the wheel.

I had the pleasure of sitting in the new camaro at the Chicago auto show, and it has a very cool interior. It also has NO rear vision. The rear window is very short vertically, and the C-pillars are huge. People complain about the Challenger blind spots, but those are nothing compared to the Camaro. The good thing about the horrible rearward view in the Camaro would be that I could pretend to be in a Lamborghini Countach. ;)

Camaro does look good in black, because it helps disguise the mess they made of the front grille.

Sat in the Challenger, and it felt spacious by comparison.

It is inevitable that people compare the three to eachother, but I have a hard time really viewing the Mustang and Camaro as direct competitors. I wish that the Challenger was the fastest car for the money, just as one might wish that one's supermodel girlfriend was also an olympic gold medalist rather than just a college track star. But that doesn't mean you break up with her.

wasn't the camaro suppose to be out in March?
