On this "Veterans Day”, (and not just on this special day, but every day),
I just wanted to say a simple but heartfelt “THANK YOU” for your service to our great country…….You helped to keep it great…….

That brought a smile to my face just now, Joe. I hadn't realized yet that this is Nov. 11. Even as late as last year, my old man (who died this past January and was a WWII vet) noted that Nov. 11 was Armistice Day. So happy Armistice Day, veterans. ;)

My Dad is also WWII vet.
86 on 11/28...and still kicks butt.
He told me this morning he doesnt even like thinking about that war...
worst years of his life.

A very big THANK YOU!!!! American soldiers are the best military force in the world. And they are the first to go and help out in every humane way possible. I am proud to be an American. Hey I should write a song... naw it never make it.:D

Indeed... a huge THANK YOU to all those serving and who have served keeping us free to enjoy things like life, liberty, pursuit of happiness for us and our loved ones... as well as driving Challengers and those other things we so often take for granted.

My Great-Grandpa is 95 some odd, and he still golfs and shovels his snow.

THANKS to all those whose served, serve and will serve. You made this country what it is today.
My grandpa was in the National Guard(did I spell Guard right? it doesn't look right?) and he was trained with a M1-A1.
My other Grandpa had a M1-A1 that was an orginal and had only had about 10-20 rounds put in.
I heard about and, well, I got a partial early inhieritance.:D
I took it out to my other Grandpa's and he showed us how to strip it, and some great shooting tips.
Those .30 Carbine's had some punch. But it's now where near a 30-06.
And now I'm off topic.

My Father is also a WWII vet having enlisted before he was of age. He had served with the Merchant Marine on a oil tanker in U-boat waters (again underaged) before looking for "more action" with the Army.
Joined the 101th Airborne "Screaming Eagles", but was removed from training and sent overseas with the 35th Infantry Division because of The Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge) when men were needed to stop the Nazis offensive. He was assigned the BAR as he was one of the smaller guys in the unit (made him a smaller target) as the BAR guy was one of the first the enemy would try and take out. He was wounded in Germany..so ending his big adventure in the big one.
By the way, if you ever watched "Kelly's Heroes" with Clint Eastwood, they worn the 35th Division patch..I use to give my dad a hard time about how his division was so good at robbing banks, and would ask were was his share of the gold!

tdub2112...I finally got my favorite WWII rife..the M-1 Garand, which is a 30-06....it's a lot of fun to fire, and no I have never had "M-1 thumb". If you think the Carbine has a punch...try the Garand..

We are losing WWII vets at the rate of over 900 a day....if you have a loved one who served...get their story today...as they may not be here tomorrow......
We (and the whole world) owe them a lot....never forget...

That 900 figure is DOWN considerably from just a few years ago, when the rate was about 1,300 a day. That shows you how many fewer of them there are left. Now, there are more living Vietnam vets than there are WWII vets. And that was from a total force that had reached 16 million by the end of 1945.
